Not on sourdough, I know it's traditional but it's not the best French toast bread.  Or sammich bread for that matter.

The only difference is the croque-madame has a fried or poached egg on top.

The sandwich in this article is basically (Monte Cristo + Croque Madame) - Ham, so not really sure why its article worthy.

Yes came here to say that, or a stuffed French toast.

Too ambitious.
I'm fine with a nice toasted cheese on raisin bread.  If it's Sunday, a nice regular toasted cheese smothered in chili con carne eaten with a fork does the trick.  Only requirement is that bread is real, not Wonder or similar, and the cheese is not American.

Last year i made a savoury french toast and topped it with grated old cheddar and green onions. It was awesome

I wouldn't say "of the highest order", as he didn't specify the type of cheese, just "cheese."

A true hipster would have listed a cheese you've never heard of, like a fragrant fromunda

I made a mashed potato waffle grilled cheese a few months ago.

It was awesome. I used onion & chive in my mashed potatoes, and then sharp cheddar for the cheese.

Unf.

I KNOW. I wsa reminded of this so many times. It would have been extra amazing with bacon crumbled into the potatoes, man.

Porous Horace: Mashed potatoes in a waffle iron and I only find out so late in life?!?!

You have to add one egg and one cup of flour to two cups of mashed potatoes for it to work.

That looks horrible.  Things look chard.

You can screw with a grilled cheese a little.  Examples:  Add bacon or tomato

You can screw with french toast a little.  Examples:  Add sugar and cinnamon.

But, don't put them both together with a runny egg on top.  It's just trying to hard to improve on perfection.

P.S.  Where the hell is the side of chef boardi ravioli for the grill cheese to dip in.

Next time, for the hell of it, try it with purple Peruvian potatoes. If you have stoner friends, they'd be entertained and fed

There is a bar downtown that makes a bacon cheddar burger with two grilled cheese sandwiches for buns.

They even throw a fried egg in there for kicks.

You haven't had french toast until you have it with melted muenster cheese on top, and hot honey or maple syrup(heated in a separate glass container on the stove)...

That would make it a Florentine, no?

/Also don't understand why this is newsworthy. I've been eating French toast stuffed with cheese and/or ham and dijon mustard for at least three decades. Maybe it's the European influence on Australian food. I didn't discover that North America serve it with Maple Syrup, fruit and powder sugar until I was in my 20s.

Ooey is not a word and anybody who invents words like that should be hung by fish hooks through their lips because they love to hate consonants so much.

Seriously.  Now you go to hell and you die, Subby.
