mod3072: There is a much more in-depth story about the whole situation here.

Man oh man is that article just one sorry excuse after another for bumbling incompetence which the dumbass reporter simply regurgitates ad nasuam. Really, the public should be angry at that bullshiat.

Did the person who found them celebrate by cracking open a cold one?

Reminds me of a similar story down here in OK, there was a Fark thread but I too lazy to link.  TWO cars were found at the end of a boat ramp.  They disappeared a couple of years apart from each other back in the late 60's early 70's to only to be found by a couple of guys testing some new sonar equipment.

Unless you know definitely where someone may have gone it appears to be a crap shoot as to weather you will find them.

Don't think that is the type of Stude they were in. Looks like a mid to late 50's from the pics.

It was a '60 model.

More of a burgundy.

Actually not uncommon here in Floriduh due to all of the canals and swampland. Have a few beers and drive too fast, usually after dark, and you end up underwater in a muddy canal. You "vanish" until the water drops or the canal gets drained and then, "Ta Da!" There you be.

"South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley earlier said a mechanical test points away from foul play because the car was in third gear, the highest."

Third is great! Once I get into third, I'm not shiftin' back for nobody.

If they were Muslim they would have been found in a week.

Bring a sturdy umbrella today folks. Cats and dogs don't even begin to describe what's coming down.

Looks like Aloysius Black Crow has some explaining to do.

If they would have found them sooner, they would still have been dead.

They were very good at not being seen.

Update:Authorities announced Tuesday that the skeletal remains found inside a car last September belonged to two teens who had been missing for 40 years and that they had died in a car crash.  http://www.argusleader.com/story/news/2014/04/15/authorities-provide- u pdate-missing-girls-case/7741485/

vpb: It's surprising how often this happens.

It's really not. People are shiatty drivers. Esp. in inclement weather.

brantgoose: This sort of thing will happen a lot more often with global warming drying up cricks.

(runs away giggling like a troop of evil Girl Scouts)

Don't forget to tip your forensic pathologist. At least 25% is customary.

laughin: svanmeter: Apparently this clears the name of one individual, according to the comments below the story. Oooops

Yeah, the guy got blamed for their rape and murder and then years later, committed a couple of rapes.  http://siouxcityjournal.com/news/sister-s-testimony-will-be-allowed-i n -lykken-trial/article_a21e8100-557e-5e3b-9cd3-e62af430216b.html

What if he only committed those rapes years later because he was accused for the rape and murder of the recently found? Was always talked about behind his back? The locals always giving him weird looks,
/Told you're bad for a long time, might as well be bad since you're getting blamed anyways...

kid_icarus: A forensic pathologist confirmed skeletal remains found in the car are consistent with being from two different people.

Note the two individual skulls, most likely originating from different skeletal structures. This almost certainly suggests two separate bodies.

So...back in the day, it was assumed that they were abducted by aliens (in spaceships)?  Or by a biker gang?  Or, that they took off for Californny and never came back?

Make no bones about it....... he may have been on the bandwagon - the straight and level - before, but he's now gone off the deep end. He's probably sloshing around some seedy dive right now.

Once he spends all his money on wine, fast women and fast cars, he'll realize he's up shiat creek. That's when he'll go on a bender and crash.

Interesting, longer article about the case here: http://siouxcityjournal.com/news/local/a1/how-thorough-was-search-for - missing-girls/article_3a65383f-7efd-5230-9906-ae5736c164db.html

From the timeline, it sounds like Lykken wasn't considered a person of interest until he'd already ended up in jail for rape, and the police zeroed in on him because he'd gone to school with one of the girls. It certainly shows what jailhouse informant testimony is worth, though.

The woman who runs the Charley Project (site/blog about missing persons) has said in the past that she thinks most people who go missing along with their cars -- as in, the car isn't found abandoned a few days later -- probably ended up like this. If someone goes off the road, off a bridge, or off a dock it only takes a few seconds to start sinking and if nobody notices at the time it could be a while before they find you -- especially if you were taking a route nobody knew you'd be on. These were two teenage girls having fun driving around -- they might well have gone off their planned route, or not had a planned route at all.

Satan's Dumptruck Driver: Easily. If there was a consensus that they were abducted and/or killed by somebody, why would they look for a car in a creek?

This should about sum up most of the global warming arguments.

Because Muslims search creeks?
