Wheaton said he brought the kids, ages 10-13, to Pittsburgh from Detroit to sell candy outside Monroeville businesses. Prosecutors said they sold candy outside Target, Giant Eagle and Kmart. Wheaton claimed the sale was for a foundation.

"It's a group called Help the Children. It's a young ambassadors youth program,
SCAM" said Wheaton.

And what loony tune parents hand over their kids to this idiot and let him take them across state lines?

The parents were thinking it was better for the kids to leave Detroit with a loon, than to keep the kids in Detroit.

Aside from the selling candy thing, I don't see a problem leaving 10-13 year olds in a hotel room.  Kids stay by themselves all the time at those ages.

Smells like a scam. Groups used to do this outside of clubs I worked at, have kids try to sell candy at 2 am to drunks for their school, sports team, whatever. They would get bitter if you didnt buy any "Buy my farking candy!"

CSB?: When I was 14, I saw a sign in 7/11 window advertising 'Win a trip to Disney World and other Great Prizes and Make Money Too!' so I talked with my folks and they let me call the number and I met the guys at a strip-mall store front.  They had kids sell candy and cards door to door and the kids got to keep 20% of the sales as well as win prizes for meeting sales goals.  The main guy told us to tell the customer anything that would make the sale, like that we were Scouts, or from a church, or from a school.  I did it for a week and when payday came around the guy said that the checks hadn't come in and would be in the next day.  Same story the next day.  That's when my Dad got involved.  He made me wait in his truck and came out a few minutes later with my money and a little more in cash and we drove to a near by store and my Dad called the cops.  My Dad was awesome.  I miss you Pop.

Yeah s'not like the girl scouts do this by the millions.

If leaving five twelve-year-olds on their own is endangering child welfare, most malls and movie theatres are complicit.

Some time ago in Mexico, I was waiting outside a liquor store for some friends. I noticed a beggar - a very old woman - on the sidewalk across the street. She was holding a crying baby. At that moment, no one was near the woman as she gently rocked the baby and tried to comfort him/her. Then, I saw some tourists walking toward the woman. When they were within 50 yards, the old woman pinched the back of the baby's arm hard enough that the baby screamed out in pain. The tourists dropped some money on the ground in front of them and the old woman went back to soothing the child. I wasn't quite sure what to do, so I went to the beach and built a wap and drank it until the bad feelings went away.

Whenever I see girl scouts out selling cookies they always have had an adult or 2 with them.

Pretty much.  He was 5' 2" and weighed around 175lbs. and was all muscle.  He was a general construction contractor who worked hard every day of his life until the cancer got him.  Not a Napoleon, but he took shiat from no one.
