(The Big Story)   There was only one catch and that was Catch-22, which specified that a concern for getting to one's court appearance on time to avoid jail time was also grounds for jail time   (bigstory.ap.org ) divider line

And not one car thief has ever figured out why no one believes they bought a decent car for $200. And for some reason the car is in the name of someone they never heard of.

That's "M&M Enterprises".

The & was inserted, Milo revealed candidly, to nullify any impression that the syndicate was a one-man operation.

Car dealerships that specialize in selling cars to people with bad credit put GPS units in the cars to make them easier to repo.

Yeah, and here's the thing...  They are trying to deflect responsibility of having stolen the car - by saying that they bought an obviously stolen car.  Like saying, "Hey, I paid for that honestly!!" is going to make any difference.  You're still in posession of stolen goods, idiot,

Oh man. I've got to read that books again.

I wasn't super happy with the movie, although I think they did the best they could given the material. The movie did lead to Paul Simon writing "The Only Living Boy In New York" since Art Garfunkel was away filming and Simon missed him, so it's got that going for it.

possession of stolen goods carries a lesser penalty than stealing those goods

Thanks.  TBH, it's been so long I forgot about M&M Enterprises; using "enterprises" was either subconscious memory or just my mind agreeing with Heller's original word choice.  For that matter, I only capitalized the "e" because it seemed to need it, in order to suggest a business as opposed to merely activities.

*nudge*  Wake up.  C'mon, I'm not that boring.

Yes I am.

Um, not sure where that matters because dealerships don't sell their cars for $200 and leave the title in the name of a third person that never met the new buyer.  If anything, the dealerships you are talking about, sells the $200 cars for $1,200 with 36% interest.  And by MI law, the title is in the buyers name and in their hand.

And in Flint, they don't need no stinking GPS mounted devices in the cars.  They just know where to find you, even if you do move.
