(Opposing Views)   Huh. Apparently teachers *can't* order older students to attack a 7th grader. Live and learn   (opposingviews.com) divider line 15

Considering my own son has had dealings with her a time or two, I'm not surprised at this...

Her answer, when my son was being bullied by a much bigger kid was "Well, he doesn't like anyone"... Like that made it all better, since the kid was notorious for bullying a lot of kids since he'd been held back a few years, so he was quite a bit bigger than his classmates and they refused to do anything to the kid...

Why yes, I did the "grumpycat - Good.jpg" when I read about this...

Abacus9: The article was pretty vague. If the teacher thought her safety was threatened, then I don't blame her. A lot of kids are thugs. It's hard to say without more details.

It is not hard to say. You don't prevent violence with pre-preemptive violence, especially in a school, and most especially as a teacher.

Personally, I am surprised the board acted so swiftly in firing her stupid ass. Hope she can find another career, because she's ruined this one.

It even has a time code on it, and those are very difficult to fake.

Middle school is a terrible time for people. I had to prepare my autistic mentee for middle school through victim avoidance training. You literally help them survive the terrible with the same classes they offer prisoners.

They can order them.  Whether or not the students responds is all a matter of training.

MagSeven: It's in the article, not unedited, but it shows you some.

It's there, edited, and with an anchorman standing in front of it for half the time.

I mean how difficult would it be to show us the entire unedited video.

August11: Middle school is the problem. We need to restructure those four years. I would like to take a cohort of twenty fifth graders and for four years rotate them through four specific areas of training: archery, mountaineering, sailing, and farming. Zero classrooms for four years. Then drop them off at the local high school and track their progress. I bet they would crush it.

What is best in life? Conan: To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of the cheerleaders.

Sure they can. Older kids seek out opportunities for sanctioned brutality.

When I was a school bus driver, I used to use the threat of violence from older kids to whip younger kids into shape all the time. You have no idea how effective a behavior modification strategy the following is: "Gee, Justin - it sure would be a shame if Rob decided to MAKE you knock it off while I looked the other way for the next ten minutes, wouldn't it?" The threat alone is usually more than enough to fix the problem.

Sometimes kids are just little shiats, and since there's so little school authorities are allowed to do anymore to knock kids back into line, it only makes sense they'd farm it out to other kids. Sometimes you gotta be a pragmatist.

Sounds like this teacher took it too far, is all. A bit of a discreet thumpin' might do some good, but a wholesale beatdown is probably over the top.

My outrage depends on how much of an asshole the kid is.
