Well, then. There we have it. The entire article and its newsworthiness summed up in a sentence.

You think that's bad?  Earlier this week I caught a gang of four young men on camera stealing everything from a neighbor's house, they even had a giant trailer truck with out of state plates to haul it away.  Then would you believe not but a day later a completely different hauling truck showed up and some seedy looking family started moving in, I suspect murder is at play!

The "lock your doors, idiots" thing reminds me of college dorms back in the day.  Lots of people rigged their locks to keep the doors from latching so people could come and go as they pleased.  It made sense of a sort.  Back then, very few people outside of Computer Science had a computer or anything else valuable in their dorm rooms.  What would they steal?  The vintage TV with rabbit ears, a missing tuning knob, and no vertical hold?  The unopened Biology textbook?

When some of them cost over 200$ a piece, yes. Yes they would steal them.

I had a 'cab driver' knock on my door the other day saying my cab was ready. I didn't order a cab.

Getting a kick etc etc...

When my sisters and I were kids, we had some guy in a car pull up outside our school.  He got out and told me that our mum had told him to go pick us up. I knew he was lying as we lived only 3 minutes away from school. As we walked away, I saw 3 other kids get into his car...

You joke but that happened to a coworker. She got home from work and the neighbor met her outside wanting to know why she hadn't mentioned they were moving. Thieves had just rolled up with a truck and loaded literally everything in her house before driving off. The idiot neighbor had sat there all day watching them.

The dorm doors at my college all automatically locked behind you. Perhaps not coincidentally, getting Security to let you back in cost $15, conveniently tacked onto your tuition bill.

That wouldn't have been so bad, but I spent more time hanging out in the common area wearing nothing but a towel than I (or anybody else) would have liked. And they always sent the little old lady security officer out to handle those sorts of things, for maximum embarrassment factor.

When I was in college, I lived in a house with three other guys, and one Friday about 3am I got woken up by a group of people in my room, wrapping me up in my comforter and tying it up. They then carried me out, shoved me in a car trunk, and then drove for about 30 minutes. I felt the car turn onto gravel road, drive a ways further, then stop. The trunk popped open, I was lifted out, set down on the ground, and then unwrapped to find myself surrounded by a group of friends from my hometown, who had just "kidnapped" me for a weekend camping trip. They had coordinated with my housemates to have a bag for me packed and ready for them, right down to toothpaste and spare contacts. The weekend as a whole turned out awesome, but they had me scared as hell at first. And yes I did get my revenge on my housemates; I was the first to move out, the others stayed another year, and the rotten-egg time bomb I left in the attic didn't go off for 9 months.

I didn't bother checking up as I was 8 at the time. No one was reported missing though (at least to my recollection).

Besides, my philosophy is that if someone did something stupid then it's their own damn fault.
