On my desk at home, along with the original BDA photo montage from the Basra "Highway of Death" and some other tokens from the first gulf war.   We didn't have a whole lot of digital imagery back then.  Lots and lots of film, though.

I probably aught to scan 'em.

Here is a bad one (taken with my cell phone) of the Basra highway.  The black burn marks are blown up tanks and trucks.  These were taken after they had cleaned up all the bodies.

The 80's were f*cking incredibly stupid, do we really have to go through all that sh*t again?

Apparently. From what i've seen, most hard core straight ticket voting republicans have a raging hardon when thinking about the possible return of the cold war.

And Putin. They love his fascist, bare chested, horseback riding manliness. They are damn near orgasmic with their awe of his sheer authoritarian-ness and iron fisted authority.

You know what?  I know a few conservatives.  They don't particularly care for Putin.  They see him as an ex-KGB agent.

In fact, I just held my nose and quickly perused Free Republic, and pretty much it sounds like they are in agreement that 'A *REAL* president wouldn't let Putin get away with that shiat:  Nobody buzzed us when Reagan was in office'.

This is what you get when you send a single destroyer to an area that Russia views as their private playground.  Its annoyance tactics, pure and simple.  Its pretty simple: Russia is just showing it isn't intimidated by our token military presence.

Yeah, it's one thing to cross at 1000 yards... it's another to close at supersonic speeds while lighting them up with your fire control. That's when the headline reads: "Pair of Russian aircraft shot down by American Destroyer after aggressive actions."

Rarely has so much fail been crammed into one sentence.

??

It's an orthodox viewpoint.

It's an idiotic viewpoint.  Forget that for eighty plus years churches were demolished or repurposed as other things and religion forcibly removed from the public sphere.  Presently, Putin rarely encourages the Christians left in the country, and when he does it's usually just to provide some balance against the Muslim separatists in the South.  Presently, 71% of the country does identify as Christian, but only 5% consider themselves observant.

So the commenter that Magorn quoted believes that a country in which 3.55% of the population of observant Christians is the last Christian nation on earth.

It's so stupid I want to believe it's a troll.

The wording is just off, the terms used are odd, and a lot of the posts seemed designed to elicit emotion. Normally I would just say "trolling", but when a bunch of trolls appear to support a common cause, I have to switch to thinking it's propaganda.

I've noticed a little bit of that myself.

It reminds me of the Usenet discussions during the Hainan Island incident.  Whole bunch of people who used stilted English arguing that the US was the aggressor and even that the large, lumbering EP-3 somehow caused the incident by attacking the PLAN fighter, which is ludicrous.

Or unusual.

Russia has been doing this occasionally for over a decade.  Not constantly, but they've been doing it off and on since by or before the War on Terror.  (I can't remember the first incident).  This is another incident in the continuing list of ways Russia is rattling sabers and being belligerent.  It should be filed and logged and used against Russia during diplomatic arguments.

Lolz.  Air forces have been doing this for as long as they've had fuel enough to get them over-water to where the ships are.  You can't remember the first incident because you weren't born then.   If you are in international water, there is absolutely *nothing* to use against anyone.  Their planes have exactly as much right to be there as our ships.

This is an absolute non-event.

Oh, it's noteworthy, but it's not shocking or terrifying.

"Buzzing" a ship is dangerous, asinine, stupid, and would get a pilot punished if he did it to his own people.  Doing it to a foreign vessel is like having a large gang of Guidos standing outside of a neighborhood grocery store loudly making racist jokes that target the races of the people entering the store.  Not illegal, not directly threatening, yet clearly meant to threaten and intimidate.
