Give Northern Ireland to Ireland but first give unionists their per capita share of the UK's nuclear arsenal to keep the peace.

Make Northern Ireland an independent Dominion. See how long it will last.

Does rump mean something else? Or is the resulting territory bum-shaped?

It's quite common in the US for someone to say "I'm Irish/ Scottish" without ever actually set foot in Ireland or Scotland. Even if their family emigrated to the US 400 years ago.

/ for example, I'm Irish; my family emigrated to the US around 1890's

Last I checked, independence isn't polling all that well in Scotland.  Probably a non-issue anyway.

Between the North Sea oil and the Texas energy sector that would bring another energy power into the international mix. Maybe places like Massachusetts can count on Venezuela for some discount heating oil if it does not have to go through a Texas refinery.

Ah but it's the Scots that had moved there over the last few centuries that didn't want that to happen.
There was nearly a civil war turn of the last century about it and it was only avoided by the fact the 1st World War broke out instead.

I do think independance would be a mistake, seeing how poorly it's been prepared.
However, poorly-written articles made by such pompous little tw*ts make for a good reason to vote for it.

It's also funny to see how the writer treats independentists seeing how he seems to have grown masturbating to Tatcher pics and even admitted affection for the UK independance party.

Farking Tory c*nt.

Requiring England to create a nuclear Northern Ireland would probably quickly solve a lot of problems for both Scotland and the Republic of Ireland.

Aside from the fallout, anyway.

Same thing with the Economist.  You know that Scottish independence is a bad idea, but after reading their arguments you kinda want Scotland to vote to secede just to fark with them.

Yes, "North of England" = "West of Hudson".

It would be utter suicide for Britain to break up this way and I don't see much in it for Scotland either. The only winners will be the SNP who can crow about how Scotland has obtained "independence" despite the economic collapse that would surely follow.

I'm one of those examples, lol. Irish and Scottish by ancestry, and born on St. Patrick's Day to boot. Sadly never been to either. The only place outside of America I've been was when I lived in Puerto Rico.

Dude, look at his login and move on.

That said, I say I'm Polish-American and the SO Irish-American but we both have grandparents who came over.  It would be *kind of* weird if we had kids (definitely grandkids; at least our parents both understand and speak a bit of Irish/Polish) and they described themselves as Polish-Irish-American.  Unless we subjugated them to Polish or Irish dance classes, then they would get the privilege as a paltry reward for the suffering.

/eh, Polish dance wasn't that bad.  The hairdo/makeup for the recitals kind of was.
//Irish dance, though... (low whistle).  Living sequined dolls.
///I don't really care how you describe yourself, though.  Just think of the children before you sign them up for heritage dance classes, that's all

Also, is it just me, or are British politicians acting like annoying children through this whole thing?

Just from what I've read/heard (Guardian/BBC), if I were a Scottish voter on a fence these 'threats' and ominous/condescending warnings would push me to the Yes side in a heartbeat.

There would be an economic collapse. Just not in Scotland.

RBS controls a LOT of wealth.
