I would be more stunned if the Bulls were added to that list, maybe even Brooklyn too. The TV Network Execs would be stepping on the ledge if that ever happened.

\Also, 60 times in the Finals, including 17 Lakers vs Celts/Knicks Finals
\\NBA is by far the most biased league of the Big Four in terms of how many championships the two best teams have won

Playoffs are right around the corner, basketball fans, and the opening round match up are mostly locked in!

Pacers picked up a huge win yesterday (I have heard from a reliable source that the locker room is farked up and the top guys go for long stretches without speaking to one another.  Not good).

The Nets are streaking at the right time and I looks like we are going to get a Nets/Bulls opening round.  It should be a good series but I am disappointed they are meeting in the first round.

I dont expect much from the Raps this post season, seeing as they are young and inexperienced, but would love to see them get out of the first round.

The Heat's depth should be interesting to watch.  They are vulnerable.

The West playoffs should be a pleasure to watch.

GSW have been disappointing but an opening round against the Clips should be really fun basketball.  Should be a good litmus test for the Clippers.

Great to see Dirk get back into the playoffs.  The guy had an amazing season and it will be fun to watch him lead the Mavs against the Thunder.

I am really interested if the Thunder can put it all together this year.  There is no excuse for them to not make the Finals out of the West in my mind.

SAS/Pop may be the best run organization in all of American sport.

The Griz were disappointing this season so I am rooting for the biggest surprise of the season, the Suns, to get the 8 seed.

I am very interested in seeing what the Rockets can do in the playoff format.  Talent alone should get them to the second round.  Portland seems to be a year and a piece away from advancing.

Enjoy the rest of the season everyone!

The disappointing thing about these things is that fifteen teams are going to have to lose.  The bottom-feeders dumped all their assets to prep for the future and the level of remaining talent is simply ridiculous as a result.  Obviously, being that this is the NBA, the Spurs and the Heat could rematch in the Finals and I don't think anyone would be surprised.  But the seeding has some crazy potential to uncork, particularly with the way that Brooklyn has been playing, and if Memphis gets in, they've been playing like a good playoff team for the last couple of months.  Should be very fun either way.

That's great. Yeah, I don't know why some deluded Knicks fans out there have this image that their team is one of the great NBA franchises...they have an overall win-loss record below .500, no titles in 40 years, and haven't been relevant since that joke of a shortened 1999 season.

I am hoping the balls bounce right for the Pelicans.  They had a bunch of injuries this year but they have a TON of talent.  Davis is looking like a stud on both ends of the floor.

Next two-and-a-half months of the season are going to be absolutely awesome.  Even if LeBron and company stick around for a couple more years, you're very much seeing the final chapter on one era of basketball and on to another.  The lottery is just going to be nuts, though.  You don't even have to win the thing to snag the huge prize.  Either way, it's just tough not to be excited about it.

I'm not surprised at all, especially when you have guys like Roy Hibbert running his mouth to the media whenever he gets the chance. Is there a more overrated player in the NBA? He averages under 11 points and under 7 rebounds a game and shoots less than 45% a game for a guy who's making max money and 7'2'' in his prime. Reminds me of all the hype Kendrick Perkins used to get in Boston - only Hibbert is less of a defender and less of a leader.

Indiana will lose in the second round to whoever they play.

Also, San Antonio and OKC are clearly the best two teams in the league this year. I hope to see another rematch of the WCF they matched up in a couple years ago.

They get Bulls or Nets?  I think there is definetly a possibility.  Can you imagine Pierce and KG getting a shot at the Heat again?  I am definetly pulling for the Pacers in the East but it would be cool to see the Nets get there considering how they started the season and the rhetoric (deserved) about the inevitable Heat/Pacers ECF.

They may not have tanked on purpose, but that doesn't make Duncan the top draft pick that you say they didn't need.

And without Duncan, they have zero Finals since then.

They would still need to get out of the west. Getting a home playoff series would be tough. This year a team needs 55 wins to host one series. What you really need to hope for is for the Bucks to move to the West and then slide over to the east where you can battle for the 3 seed.

"It's horrible for the NBA that those markets may not be in the playoffs," Lakers radio commentator Mychal Thompson said (via USA Today) "The NBA is a lot healthier business when those franchises are competing for championships."

FYI Mychal, the Clippers made it...

A few things I think the NBA should add......

1. Potentially a modified version of the CFL "crossover" rule , only in "extreme" cases (my thinking is, if one conference has a 9th seed with better than a .550 record, and the other conferences 8th seed is below .500... the 9th seed can be "slotted" into the other conferences playoffs (where their record would put them, as a non-division winner).

2. Allow the lowest seeds in each conference that lose in the first round to be in the lottery (this takes away the thinking near the end of the year... do I want to be in the playoffs as an 8th seed, or try to dunk into the lottery and try to get "lucky").

Also, the 8 Eastern Conference teams, with their records since Xmas....

Indiana                    32  -  21
Miami                        32 -   20
Toronto                    36  -  18
Chicago                    36 -   17
Brooklyn                35  -  17
Washington            30  -  25
Charlotte                27  -  24
Atlanta                    22-    30

I think it is going to be much more interesting than "Indiana & Miami" vs. everyone else as some people think.  Certainly IND & MIA are the likely favorites to make the Eastern finals, but, especially the 3rd-5th seeds have been playing are a really good clip after awful starts to get to their current records.

Which is more likely to happen: The NBA starts marketing DeMar DeRozen and Kemba Walker or they game the system to make the Association so idiot-proof that not even the Jimmies Dolan and Buss can win less than 45 games? Which do you think ESPN and TNT will approve of?

Honestly, if the Pacers get bounced back to #2 for the playoffs I could see the Bobcats beating them at this point. I think playoffs Big Al would have a field day with Roy "slumping-so-bad-he's-fallen-off-of-the-face-of-the-earth-but-wasn't-t hat-impressive-to-begin-with" Hibbert. I think they'll squeak by the Hawks. I honestly don't think they'd even get two games against the Raptors, Nets or Bulls. Toronto vs. Miami in the ECF.

I don't even know what to think of the west. It's going to be a bloodbath. I hope the Suns can squeak in because SA vs PHX would be a great series for the slated to be the second worst team Suns. I mostly just want the Blazers to put Houston down. That's going to be a particularly nasty series.

The multiple-game series guarantees the best teams almost always win, unlike the NFL where the best team only occasionally wins the Super Bowl, much less gets there.  I like the best teams winning.

The Lakers and Celtics racked up lots of championships when there weren't many teams and most of them weren't well run, but sure, they get players coming who wouldn't look at other teams.

I like that idea. Like this year, the Suns will likely finish 9th in the West. Their record would put them tied with 4th in the East. But the criteria you mentioned would be met as well. East's 8th seed is .463 at the moment, Suns are .588.

Which is why I brought it up..... this would be only the 3rd time in the last 20 years it would have been used (two years in a row a few years ago with a West team going into the EC playoff grid)... but, in those cases, I think it is fair, and gets better teams into the playoffs.

Arimaris: From the Article

"It's horrible for the NBA that those markets may not be in the playoffs," Lakers radio commentator Mychal Thompson said (via USA Today) "The NBA is a lot healthier business when those franchises are competing for championships."

FYI Mychal, the Clippers made it...

While your point is valid, i think i read that even this year (the Lakers worst, and the Clippers best season), the Lakers ratings are two to one (or was it three to one) compared to the Clippers.  not knocking them, but as of now the Clippers aren't really respective of the LA market (who knows what could happen if they win a bunch of championships in the next few years...and half of Southern CA NBA fans over 20 die off  =)

FriarReb98: I like how the caption reads that the Lakers, Celts & Knicks have won 35 titles combined...because you know, those TWO the Knicks contributed to that number mean so very much.

Yeah, NY is an afterthought (sorry, those who think the world/NBA revolves around you) but the fact BOS and LA are out IS an interesting stat.
