Angry Birds Rio is the worst of the Angry Birds games.

This is what happens when you don't wait until the AP posts their article at the end of the weekend.

Glad GBH is still being watched in theaters.

Can I see Raid 2 without seeing 1?

Draft Day looks boring and it looks like the masses agree.

Cap 2 still rocks.

Jason Bourne and the Winter Soldier was pretty good. The political overtones of drone targeting and data mining was front and center until they decides it could all be fixed with a few big explosions.

I liked it. 4/5 Wacky Symbols

Never really understood that. However, Winter Soldier was really good, and I didn't like the first one and thought the Avengers was just okay. I guess what worked here was the villain. Robert Redford seems like an ideal fit for a superhero adversary. Much better, than the villain in Avengers, anyway. That guy seemed like he was held over on the callback list to play Spike in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Which I think is why Jeff Bridges also did a fantastic job with Iron Man.

Given The Raid 1 doesn't really have a plot, I'd think so.

Raid movies are just an excuse for awesome fight scenes.

I thought Redford was the worst part of the movie. It was almost like he couldn't figure out which parts to play straight, and which parts to be creative. I think Bill Paxton's performance on Agents of Shield has been much better.

Yeah. I know. And I'm okay with that. Just not understanding the nearly universal appraise it's getting. I did everything that I've done for the other marvel movies: shut off my brain, prepared for horribly cheesy lines, don't think ahead because the plot will be utterly predictable, and despite all of that still couldn't enjoy it past the boat scene (which was cool, I'll def give it that).

You have to be. Otherwise the whole world is on crazy pills. The movie is objectively good. The only obvious flaw is that the hack the carriers with three chips is a bit of childish writing even though the action that happens because of it is awesome.

I've been accused of trolling. NOT COOL BRAH/SIS.

You can like the movie; that's perfectly acceptable. But please don't try to defend its mind numbing logical gaps. SPOILERS AND biatchING: Dear dead guy on tapes, how did you do all of this? "I wrote an algorithm" ... Like a whole megabyte?

I get that this alternate universe can do weird shiat. The whole premise is a serum made in 194? That can't be replicated created a super soldier and that the largest dry dock in history for floating suborbital carriers was somehow built under the Potomac, but c'mon.

Maybe I saw too many of the commercials during the Olympics (no fault of the film), it's just...the face mask plot device from mission impossible 2? Ugh

Think of it as a Jason Bourne movie with super powers....like the one with Hawkeye in it, except the super powers were not from taking drugs constantly and you don't have to want the hero to die...like in the last Bourne Movie.

I will say, I don't put it at the top of the comic book movies.  But it was good.  And it was different like Thor is different.  Spy v. fantasy v. Ironman...which is something.  I liked it.

I'm actually asking why others like it so much. And I do actually respect opinions on here, it's just that I usually fall in the middle on this tab. I'm not normally an outlier

True.  He's not like the comic character at all. But he worked very well.  He and Chris Evans did very well.  SLJ was a charictature of himself.  I think Johanson did well, I just didn't like the writing for her.  Her main role in the movie was to convince Captain America to get a date?  Since when is a super spy and assassin worrying about the love life of a super hero?  I just wanted to slap her and say, "Get over it.  He can find his own women, woman."

I went to see the Cap 2 movie last Sunday. I liked it but didn't think it was the best Marvel movie like others have said (and that I've read elsewhere).

The Avengers is still my favorite movie so far.

I saw The Raid 2 yesterday.  Great movie, maybe even better than the first.  My only complaint is the gimmicky baseball boy and hammer girl near the end.  Don't get me wrong, they were awesome.  But they seemed out of place, like they were left over ideas from Kill Bill.

The main reason CA:TWS is good is that it finally made Agents of SHIELD worth watching.  That and it's just a good movie overall.  But mainly it gave us Bill Paxton saying "Hail Hydra", so the movie could be complete garbage and it's still worth it.

Honestly, I'd be happy if they scrapped the whole cast of Agents of SHIELD, paid Bill Paxton whatever he asked, and made the show about him and a team of evil agents going around the world stealing super power stuff and using it against "good guys".

*Lots of SPOILERS alert

This is all true, but I forgave it because the moment Fury produced those three replacement chips it was obvious they were nothing more than a McGuffin.

The script at that point was driven by the need for Cap, Falcon, and finally Cap again to have three epic fights of escalating risk on each of the helicarriers. Whatever happened after each fight couldn't be more than a coda to the fight itself. Combine that with a little laziness in the writing, and you get the world's first open air mission-critical data centers.

Once you start to tug on the threads in a movie like this, all sorts of things start to come unraveled: were did those three chips come from? Who built them? How did Fury know he would need them, and wasn't it a little dangerous that they existed? Where did Black Widow get exactly the mask she needed in time? etc. etc. But for me at least, the momentum carried the movie and I didn't worry about that stuff until I was in the car park.

2014-04-14 12:11:14 PM
Interestingly, in the 1980s you could have made almost the same film as CA:TWS but in reverse, with Fury's chips being made by the bad guys and installed on the helicarriers, and Cap and his superfriends have to remove them and put the proper targeting chips on board before the helicarriers destroy each other.

At the climax of the movie, they get the chips installed just in time, the helicarriers take out 200,000 terrorists just before they can do Bad Things, and then use their lasers to carve Ronald Reagan's face onto Mt. Rushmore as stirring patriotic music plays, and roll credits.

I can accept the three chips and the ease by which they could be installed - by attributing it to Fury's paranoia and influence on the designs.

Black Widow's mask bothered me a lot more because we haven't seen that kind of technology yet in this universe (outside of Loki's projectors). But that still wasn't half as bad as the individual components of the Mark 42 Armor flying a thousand miles... The Marvel movie stories are good, but the scripts need one or two smart readers looking for that last "huh?" "...really?" or "so what?" before they go into final editing.

Hah, I just realized what was going on with that banter in the last episode of AoS! The scoobies have a little back and forth over whether it's "cut off a head and two more shall take its place" or "cut off a limb". And it just dawned on me that they're making fun of the fact that in the old comics they used to (incorrectly) say "limb", while in the movies they've been saying "head".

Sir, I award you one Internets, and may God have mercy on your soul.

All kinds of people hate on her for some reason. To the point that I saw an article last week about her appearance on Fallon, and they did rap songs in old Broadway style and addressed the 'HathaHaters'...

Chris Ween: SLJ was a charictature of himself.  I think Johanson did well, I just didn't like the writing for her.  Her main role in the movie was to convince Captain America to get a date?  Since when is a super spy and assassin worrying about the love life of a super hero?  I just wanted to slap her and say, "Get over it.  He can find his own women, woman."

SPOILERS: No, that was pure comic relief. Black Widow's role was to gradually shift her world view from Nick Fury's to Steve Rogers's. Remember the scene in the car that begins with her asking Steve if he's kissed anyone since 1945, and ends with him challenging her world view. ("Sounds like a hard way to live." "Yeah but it's a good way not to die.") And it goes back to the ship mission when she realizes her side mission really did jeopardize the rest of the team.

So Black Widow goes from not trusting anyone and keeping everything about herself secret, to bringing down the entire secret intelligence apparatus and putting her entire life out in the public in the process. I'd call that a pretty significant role.

I also liked that, while Nick Fury ceded control to Cap at the end, he still hadn't learned anything. He genuinely believed that S.H.I.E.L.D. was salvageable, and backed off only when Hill and Widow sided with Cap. Then he shoots Pierce to save Black Widow, but pauses before the second shot. And we clearly see both wounds were to the heart and directly next to each other: straight-up kill shots, and the second unnecessary except to guarantee he's dead. So Fury hasn't changed in the least.
