Oh no. Won't somebody please think of the super rich people!

Who often juggle money in foreign accounts to avoid paying taxes, and fully admit to doing so.

Mrs. Tom Brady went on to say she's no different than you or me.
"I've got the same interests, the same day-to-day life, as any woman.

Yep. You're just like the rest of us. The helicopter that take me to work every day should be here any minute!

Life's precarious like that, Subby; comes with the landscape.

You only have to pay the rich people's tax, so don't sweat it.

Well, did she try to cheat? Did she have to pay?

I mean, it's a very anorexic article.

2014-04-14 07:56:06 AM
Wait so why are you cheating on your taxes?  I bet my tax percent after deductions is higher than hers.  Go cry me a river rich people.

I wasn't aware that the IRS tells you why you're being audited. Can't imagine they walked in with an issue of Forbes and said "you're busted".

2014-04-14 08:19:02 AM
If anyone on the list wants to trade places with me, I'll endure the horror of an audit so they don't have to.  Well, I won't, I'll have my people do it, but still.  It would be humiliating. Not as humiliating as when you have a guest coming for dinner on your yacht, and BOTH of your helicopter pads are taken up by your helicopters. You people know what I'm talking about, right?

This is one of the reasons Malcolm Forbes would never include himself on his "Rich Lists"

The main reason was that he had a lot less money than people thought he did.

2014-04-14 08:29:44 AM
You'd think the IRS would have other ways of determining your wealth. Like a super computer that can computer up to four returns a day.

Gisele Bundchen has revealed that she was audited by the IRS just because she was placed on the Forbes Supermodel Rich List

Thank you for modelling, Ms Bundchen. Please accept this check with a lot of 0's. Go ahead and deposit it in any bank. No government agency will notice. We're not creating a paper trail detailing your wealth. The modelling industry has zero oversight when it comes to financial matters. No one ever comes back to us and says "Why did you give some woman $100,000 to model?"

Also this. I have been repeatedly assured the IRS does not target liberals, and iirc Gisele calls herself a liberal.

If you are rich enough to get audited for being on a rich list, you are rich enough to hire accountants to take the fall when you get caught committing tax fraud. So there's only money at stake.

Actually, anyone who buys gasoline pays a federal tax, moron.

There are myriad other non-income taxes as well, and they're invariably passed on to consumers of everyday goods.

It's almost as if there's some underlying condition that causes both "being on the Forbes rich list" and "gets audited by the IRS". Sounds crazy I know, but I'm going to go out on a limb here and speculate that "being rich" might cause both those things.

In Gisele's case I would.  All day long.

2014-04-14 09:32:38 AM
I missed the part of the article where an IRS spokesperson revealed that the Forbes list is what triggered her audit. I would guess that she was flagged for an audit because her income is high AND her tax situation is extremely complex. Indeed, I don't envy an accountant trying to do the taxes for a celebrity supermodel or star athlete. Their client receives compensation in many forms, in many states and even multiple countries. What all was received as a gift versus income would be tricky, I would think. Even what would be considered a business expense would be debatable for someone whose profession is largely based on their image and lifestyle.

That was the area I worked in, Excise taxes.  Go to irs.gov and pull up Form 720 and you will see a list of the different taxes that you either pay directly or are passed on to you, as the final consumer.

If the Forbes article triggered an audit, it would be due to Forbes claiming Gisele had a higher net worth than her most recent tax returns claim. The IRS tends to pounce when it sees a change in your filing patterns or when it has been reported that you have money that isn't on your tax returns (see Richard Hatch, the first Survivor winner, who "forgot" to claim his winnings and some other things). Gisele got flagged for something the IRS regularly flags people for. It's NBD and practice as usual with the IRS. They target emerging trends (hello PACs), sudden changes, or discrepancies that make it into the news. If you are consistent, you can get away with murder.

Of course not.  I'd ask her to jump up and down or go for a walk for a few minutes, give her time to drain.  I'm not some kind of pervert.

I think if I had a lot of money I would like to keep as low as a profile as I could to not attract any unwanted attention, but thats just me. But I'm guessing they dont put the Forbes list on a dart board to get people to audit.

Exactly. I have it on very good authority that the IRS focuses solely on conservative groups whose names refer to and stated goals include opposition to taxation. Why would the IRS even think these groups would want to avoid paying tax? This is a liberal media deflection, clearly. We need to be infromed.

2014-04-14 10:39:31 AM
Phew, dodged that bullet.

How my audit would go:  "You owe us $ 0.19 for the 'office supplies' you paid cash for and can't find the receipt for.  We owe you $12.22 for the deductions you could have claimed, but were so moronic you did your own taxes to save money and thus didn't know you could claim."

Yeah today they just look at if you've donated to the Republicans or if you are a member of an anti tax political group.  You say you are retired, then you may not have noticed but the IRS has become Obama's enforcers.  (crap, now I'm going to get audited)

2014-04-14 11:03:19 AM
I've already been audited by the IRS because of this list...

Really? Got some kind of evidence other than 'My random audit happened'? Did someone involved in the audit tell you that it happened specifically because you made the list?

Besides, if the rich weren't constantly trying to fark over the system, maybe they wouldn't suspect the rich of trying to fark over the system. I know, that's a pretty high concept for a farking model to figure out, but maybe your tender flower of a husband can get someone to explain it to you.
