Yeah...I remember that guy from the early days of the Afghan war. He was the spokesperson for the Northern Alliance who gave lots of statements to the 24-hour news networks. Former doctor.

We should have handed control over to him and the Northern Alliance a few weeks after Tora Bora. After that, it was all a huge goddamn rabbit hole of kill teams, insurgencies, counter-insurgencies, steal all the equipment for Iraq, try to continue fighting on the cheap with no equipment... Then pretend we're re-fighting the thing 10 years later.

Such a clusterf*ck on all counts.

He'll sign the Status of Forces and we'll be there for many more years with a reduced footprint, but we'll still be there conducting raids.

Nah, war fatigue has set in. No one cares about Afghanistan, prisoners in Gitmo, war in Syria.

Ukraine is the new cause to beat the war drums for.

damn well better not be. it's far past time we cut and ran and left those thieving assholes to themselves. tough on the women and NGOs but too bad. i'm sick and tired of continuing bush's failed policies and this is one it's easy to ditch.

To be fair, Ukraine does concern the fate of white people and involved an old foe who lots of older people still see as a big boogie man in Russia.  That is much easier to sell than the fate of brown people who hate us in Syria and Afghanistan.

let's take these one at a time. the taliban is festering all over afghanistan and has been since -- what? 6 months (maybe) after we ran them out of kabul. shiat they were charging the folks in rural areas for the electricity WE FIXED.

al qaeda in active as hell in pakistan, it's not like we wiped them out. so they come back, so what. we drone strike them in afghanistan instead of pakistan.

there is nothing wrong with me. really there isn't.

But they're not in charge. They're outsiders. They're hosting al Qaeda training camps.

We'll drone strike them wherever they try to plot from.

the taliban are warlords basically. they may or may not end up back in charge. i doubt the chinese would like that. nor any other government with any interest in doing business there.

what's up with the OMG AL QAEDA stuff. they aren't going fly any more planes into buildings here. will they continue to case some minor problems in places other than America, probably. but if the pakistanis are willing to tolerate them why should i care? yemen, solmalia, same thing. shiat holes i don't care about. tough on the everyday folks but hey my compassion, what there is of it, gets spent here.

Oh, then I guess we're safe.

We can end the war on Terror.

Good thing you were here to let that be known.

He doesn't actually know anything about foreign policy and that isolationist rhetoric sounded good?

We need to stay engaged in that area of the world. Even if minimal. We need some military presence, and we need to be providing a whole bunch of help in helping build political and social institutions. The soft power stuff that people generally don't know anything about, and have no farking idea that the US Government can do it, and do it well. Which is probably why it's criminally underfunded...

Kumana Wanalaia: Oh, then I guess we're safe.

nice editing. yes we are safe. you and i are never going to be attacked by al qaeda on US soil. book it.

the "War on TerrorTM"is one of the worst things to ever happen to us. the atrocities we have committed on our citizens and the world in it's name are beyond measure. and for what? yeah we killed a bunch of al qaeda members. but like the hydra new groups sprang up in their place.

face it,we have made asymmetrical warfare popular and it isn't going away.
