SecretAgentWoman: Why do Americans keep referring her to her middle name, "Kate Middleton" when she's now, "Kate, Duchess of Cornwall."

Drives me nuts.

She asked to be called "Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge."

The family uses Wales as a last name of sorts, too.

It's easier to write short headlines with "KATE!" From a journalist point of view, that's the only reason.

George looks like his father, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge

He's got his mother's eyes and spirit and is completely  adorable. Prince William is a dork; marrying Kate is the best decision he's ever made.

That first picture looks nothing like Kate.

Probably because it's Kim Kardashian.  Was thisisyourbrainonFark trying to imply that she's american royalty?  The world...may never know.

I wonder if he secretly hates the fact that if he weren't rich and royalty, he'd be ignored by Kate and she'd definitely be farking a surely bartender named Geoff who pronounces "through" as "frew?"

You know it's true.

phalamir: NobleHam: , but titles themselves aren't banned.

On the other hand, title-giving countries tend to be loath to give them to US citizens*, because it can be construed as meddling in domestic politics, i.e. England making me Baron of Dunny-on-the-Wold would be England deciding the US voters could not make me President.

I say  "tend" since didn't Aruba make some criminal yotz Knight-Commander of fark-All recently?

Not sure that's really true. I seem to recall a fair number of American entertainers have been awarded some form of honour. In fact I think if Spielberg becomes a citizen of a commonwealth country he can start calling himself Sir Steven.

I like her: 1) she's hot and I don't blame him for, as the Royals say, "porking" her day and night, 2) she seems intelligent, unlike Diana, who seemed to be a bimbo, and 3) she appears to have a nice personality, unlike Diana who seemed to be a major pain in the ass, otherwise why would Chuck prefer "Old Horseface" over her.

Yeah, it's only people in government who aren't allowed to accept fancy titles from other countries  unless they get Congress's permission (and good luck with that). And the US doesn't give fancy titles.  These are both in Article 1, Section 9, Paragraph 8 of the Constitution.  Article 1, Section 10, Paragraph 1, prohibits the individual states from giving out titles of nobility, too.

I'm not quite sure how Kentucky giving people the title of "Kentucky Colonel" fails to run afoul of 1-10-1, but I suppose it's kind of like "County Farm Fair Queen" - the modifiers before the key noun make it clear that it's not such an honor after all. ;-)

So he's going prematurely bald, too?
