I've covered about half the country in the last 6 months and it amazes me how any places claim to serve a Chicago Deep Dish Pizza when they're actually serving pan pizza.  A Chicago style pizza has the crust bent at a 90 degree angle, rising up the side of the pan and  the sauce goes on top.  The lip of crust contains the soupy casserole.  I just had a [delicious] pan style pizza that was sold as Chicago Style at a pizza place with Chicago in the name.  And it's a freakin' chain.  How can anyone decide to go into business selling a product without doing the least bit of research to understand the product they're selling?

I'm glad we could clear that up and move forward.

Foolish mortals!  Everyone KNOWS the best pizza is in Saint Freakin' Louis

indecisivetraveler.com

Yeast free, unleavened dough that is more cracker like than any crap New York can come up with.  More oregano than the typical Greek mountainside.  Some strange block of pasteurized process "cheese food" to go on top...

...and... oh lord, who am I kidding, I'd rather eat a New York cracker pizza than this crap.

/That said, NOTHING beats a Chicago pepperoni & Italian sausage casserole in a bread bowl.

Chicago style pizza is a casserole. Real pizza is not a casserole, so saying Chicago style pizza is the best implies you don't even know what the fark a pizza is. Par for the course for Americans. Create something that has nothing to do with the original, then co-opt the name. Football, pizza, democracy. It's the American way!

Oh come now. The best pizza is in Lansing, Michigan...

Rest in Peace, Ms. Grimaldi. I'm sure your pizza was/is also superb.

/There is enough room in this world for so much delicious pizza.
//NYC, Chicago deep dish, Chicago stuffed, Detroit style...
///The important thing is pizza
