jmr61:

Sport (n.): an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.

Depending on how you determine physical exertion I guess. Nowadays most pro golfers are in impeccable shape (no not all, of course) and walk a few miles a day which is more than some other sports.

Meh. I'll still check in tomorrow afternoon, going to Espn.com first and if it looks close between 2 or more guys, watch it on CBS.

'Woods' like Tiger back.

Me too. Golf is less interesting without its best player. There's some good youngins, but no one with Tiger's aura.

Tiger hasn't been the best player in golf in years. Sort of like how Dale Jr is the most popular driver in nascar but not the best.

Kid seems solid. We'll see what sleeping on it does to him.

(He'll probably sleep like a rock. Damn if I could relive being 20, the fun I would have.)

I have nothing against Adam Scott, but I hope we don't have to see much of Stevie Farking Williams pimping himself in front of the camera tomorrow. WAD.

I see that no one mentioned that Rory McIlloy had to play today with a marker due to the odd number making the cut and the marker beat him by 1 shot.

QFT. I'd love to see a Jordan v Bubba straight fight for the Jacket on Sunday. I think Jordan's the real deal from what I've seen and we know what Bubba can do.

/And I like Adam Scott, except he has that AW on the bag

I saw this morning that Wowy was teeing off first with a "non-competing marker" and thought, "Sharpie? Crayola?" Then I studied it out.

cameroncrazy1984: Tiger hasn't been the best player in golf in years.

A healthy Tiger was still the best player last year. Leading money winner, PGA Player of the Year, PGA Tour Player of the Year. Two Top 10 Major finishes. 5 wins.

Name your 2013 player that was any better from start to finish.

And he's STILL at the top of the World Golf Rankings right now.

Yeah he's obviously the best golfer in the world, even in his 'decline.'  But Sundays at a major?  Not so good.

Yep, that's the standard for Tiger.  Just like some sports programs hang banners for playoff/tournament appearances and conference/division championships and others only hang banners for championships or really close like Final Four.

Take anyone not named Tiger, give him Tiger's 2013 year wins, money title and all of the awards he got and you'd be saying that guy had the best year of anyone in 2013. Fact.

Whether or no TW had a good year by his own standards is irrelevant. He was still better than everyone else.

It certainly is within a sufficient timeframe to dispute the statement that he hasn't been the best player in golf in "years".

Which was the original statement I was responding to.

His benchmark is irrelevant. It certainly wasn't used when he was voted player of the year by both the PGA and PGA Tour voters now was it?

Were they wrong? Who deserved it more in 2013? Are you saying all 4 of the 2013 major winners deserved POTY over Tiger?

Spit it out. Who's the best player in the world over the last few years? Dancing around Tigers "standard" is a cop out.

I'm going by what he says. Ask him if he'd rather win 2 or 3 majors or a half-dozen nobody-has-ever-heard-of-them events. Wanna bet what he'd say?

Doesn't matter what his standard is. We're not debating if *he* thought his year was completely successfull.

A previous farker said Woods hasn't been the best player in the world in years. I point to 2013 and ask who had a better year. Even his peers agreed when they voted him #1.

People get stupidly hung up on Tiger Woods own personal goals and completely miss the big picture. A "bad" year for Tiger still can be better than anyone else in the field.

If someone had won 2 majors or 1 major and 4 tour wins. Maybe. Adam Scott was close.

2014-04-13 12:52:02 AM
Tiger is clearly the best golfer in the world - no one else is even close. Tiger is clearly not the golfer he was 10 years ago - not even close. These statements are not mutually exclusive.
