Two Divergents in a wood road?

Do I really have to point out that this will be based on the third book, and therefore not a direct sequel to Divergent?

Yes, I'm a geek who likes teen fantasy.science fiction. Got a problem with that?

Harry Potter should have been at least 2 movies per book starting with the 4th one. Those books were really farking long.

Hunger Games' third part is insanely complicated. Not necessarily good, just more happens than the first two books put together.

I don't lump the Hobbit in with the rest of those. I think after having to pick and chose what to cut from the Lord of the Rings, Peter Jackson just wanted to stick in as much crap as he possibly could. Obviously the studio is going to love that, but I'm sure making three movies was a (poor) creative choice by Peter Jackson.

You also left out the last Twilight. Absolutely no plot stretched into two separate movies.

I was bored out of my mind one day so I went to see it without knowing anything about it.  Not the best movie, but interesting enough that I'll go see the sequel.

Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince were fantastic adaptations, apart from the lackluster endings (no transfigured fountain? no showdown at hogwarts?). Goblet of Fire really needed the time, though. Not sure why the hell the studio said no, but if they hadn't, there would still be bits and pieces of Twilight sequels coming out.

It was a financial decision by WB. Miramax sold the rights under the condition it would get proceeds from one Hobbit movie, and WB didn't want to share:   http://www.thewrap.com/weinsteins-sue-warners-new-line-hobbit-sequel- p rofits/

Wat? Did we read the same book? Mockingjay is just a war story, from one character's PoV. It ain't that complicated.

my guess is the training/propganda (first half) and War (second half) are probably what the split will be.

Didn't the movie just bomb and stink up the place?   And they're planning three sequels?  Unlikely.  That sounds like wishful thinking on some invested agent or exec's part.

2014-04-12 08:23:55 AM
And the fans of the book series are supposedly NOT happy with this, as they claim the third book was the worst and that there's not enough material to split. Also, it seems they're wise to what the studios are doing, claiming that they're just being soaked for $$$ to see two films. The one sentence in the article I read that had me cracking up was the one that stated fans would have to wait until 2019 "to see how the story they love ends". Or they could, I don't know, read the books instead? *headdesk*

And the husband wonders why I don't like going to the movies. Nope, not even for Frozen. Waited till I got the DVD.

I wouldn't call a $114,000,000 U.S. box office take 'stink up the place.'  I think a better example of that would be Schwarzenegger's latest, Sabotage, which has done less than $9 million in 3 weeks.

There are still Twilight movies coming out...

Also, completely agreed on Order of the Phoenix. It's amazing that a book I hated so much made for such a good movie. Probably because they severely cut down on Harry's angst over his destiny.

I liked Frozen; it's the whole movie-going experience (over-priced concessions, audience that doesn't care about basic manners) that I don't like. At home, I can eat what/when I want, talk if I want to, and potty when necessary without missing anything.

Nope, you're now going to be on the hook for story arcs, multi-part monstrosities, and anything else that'll get asses in seats, either in the theater or at home. And, yes, every young adult fantasy or SF story will now be a cookie-cutter "Chosen One" angst fest, spread out across as many parts as possible. Good luck with that, kids!

I thought the first Divergent could have been ended a little earlier like after successful training and then the second one could have been the social collapse of the colony.

But there's very little of the propaganda. Srsly, SPOILERS  A little bit of life in District 13. Katniss gets her new costume, she records the video, they show the video, District 13 gets bombed. Then, war part.

It'd be like Saving Private Ryan, but with 30 minutes of dullsville at the beginning.

Divergent is the perfect Indigo Children movie.

It taps into their underlying belief that they are special and unique and can't be pigeonholed into any of society's conformist constructs. It is literally a wish fulfillment fantasy for a generation of coddled children who were never told no.

Divergent is a good movie, it's no Twilight or Hunger Games, it stands on it's own.
And yes, Shailene Woodley is a babe
