Gentoolive: Wtf is "spiffy" about this.

Because they are closing because Obamacare is now addressing the needs of the community.   Think of it as a food bank closing because of a lack of customers.  It's spiffy.

Wait till people find out Obamacare isn't free and is the worst "insurance" on the market.

I would throw a goddamn party if the free clinics in my town closed because of a lack of demand.

Really?
FTA: In January, Bowser explained, the clinic saw between 80 and 90 patients, dropping to 14 in February and only 3 in March.
Holy crap! That's awesome.

Do you know how I know you didn't RTFA?

There's no more need for the clinic. The patients that were requiring their care are now being cared for by insurance and expansions of medicaid thanks to Obamacare.

Buried in the comments, apparently the authors of TFA have previously refered to the ACA as Obamacare frequently, but not a mention of it in this one...

In fact, it doesn't mention Obama once.

HRRRRMMMMMMM.

Seriously?

The federal government stepping in at taking over is something to celebrate?

The need was being met locally at no cost to anyone.

Government expansion and intrusion into our lives is not something to celebrate.

So you're saying that the labor and materials used by the clinic, not to mention their rent, utilities, insurance, and other expenses, simply didn't exist? They somehow fall outside our meager understanding of economics?  Or perhaps poor sick people walked in the clinic door, [A MIRACLE HAPPENED], and they walked out cured?  That's incredible!

/Alternately, it could be that your brain isn't one of those "thinky" ones.

We don't need food stamps, that church runs a perfectly good food cupboard for the poor!

2014-04-11 08:35:52 PM
The usurper is forcing you into certified death panel hospitals by closing free market charity hospitals.

2014-04-11 08:38:05 PM
That clinic cost a lot of money and time that can now go toward other urgent community needs. Free clinics are also not capable of handling a great deal of more complex care.

The people who run the clinic are farking thrilled. If you aren't, you might be an asshole who doesn't understand why people do charitable works in the first place.

2014-04-11 08:51:31 PM
You mean the government might actually work better than the private sector in this one instance?

2014-04-11 09:07:08 PM

Gentoolive: Wtf is "spiffy" about this.

Because they've literally reached the completion of their mission. The people they used serve- the uninsured who couldn't qualify for Medicaid- are now being cared for because they can access care under the ACA. Since they went from serving over 80 patients a month in January to only 3 in the entire month of March, they realized they didn't need to continue to operate it.

And that's pretty damn spiffy, because not only are people getting medical care, but the resources being spent on the free clinic can go to other things now.

The current Clinic Director, Stacey Bowser, explained there were many mixed emotions involved in the decision but said overall, with the passage of the Affordable Care Act, the need is no longer present - the patients that the ministry opened for are now being served.

THANKS OBAMA!!!!!!

Hey doofus, if I were unfortunate enough to have a deadly chronic illness that insurance companies wouldn't insure me for and "government expansion and intrusion" saved my farking life... I say they can expand and intrude all the fark they want, because I'm alive. I'd be celebrating like a motherfarker.

That is what people like you can't grasp... health care is life and death. Anything that prevents my immediate or short term death is welcome, and I really don't give a rolling rat fark who helps me or how they do it.

But then again selfish bastards like you will never understand... that is, unless it happens to you. Like many other haters, their issues with "government expansion and intrusion" miraculously disappeared when their ass was on the line.

No. He's asking you how did you come to that number. Stating an arbitrary number with no background or information on how that was reached is a known propaganda tactic for opponents of Obamacare.

It was from the federal market place for my family of three with a net income of $3500/mo.

It's that lovely gap where I'm not at poverty and qualify for full subsidy and not rich enough to not have choose between healthcare or the mortgage.

The state of florida approved our Medicaid application. They'll be more than happy to cover my medical expenses after the $4000/mo
mark.

Family of 3 -- I entered 2 non-smoking 35-year-old adults and child -- 42k/year.  I picked Punta Gorda, Florida as your home.  Came up with $239 per month out of your pocket, not $900 (link).

I went back through my application, entered the actual exact numbers for income (I had ballparked it $4000/mo and the actual number is $4050.change) and I'm discovered that I'm $405/year ($48825 vs actual $49300) over the threshold for the reduction in premium and reduction in out-of-pocket costs.  The cheapest plan is $640/mo for a bottom end bronze plan to $1200/mo for a high-end platinum plan.  The bronze plan is still more than my freaking mortgage payment.

I have no idea what the hell you're doing on that site.  From healthcare.gov, the least expensive Silver plan from what you've told us:

img.fark.net

The most expensive silver plan for those parameters is $442.
