The big speaking fees generally come after a President leaves office. Any dinners with big fees would likely be either charitable or campaign events, so the money wouldn't be personal income.

The President's effective federal income tax rate is 20.4 percent.

That makes no sense at all.  You see, the way taxes work is that if you make over $250,000 than all of your money is taxed at 33%.  I am forced to conclude that Obooger has cheated on his taxes.  This is ECON 101 stuff.  Don't argue with me.

The Obamas give over 12% of income to charity. The Bidens did a bit over 5%. I would like to see the figures for Boehner, Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Mitch McConnell, etc.

I just had my taxes done this week.  Half a pound of paper for the returns for the feds and state, and that's without itemizing or investment income.

A little tax simplification might go a long way.

And one person's effective tax rate on $50k of W2 income might be vastly different from another person's effective tax rate on $50k of W2 income - where one is married with kids and a homeowner, and the other is a single renter with no kids.

"Marginal" is not "effective". You can tell by the spelling.

Yeah, but the blog network that does the worst in the post-season gets first round pick choice. If this guy is as good as you think, he may end up having to argue about AIDS being used as a way for white people to purge blacks.

If you really like the guy, ignore his stuff and hope to drag the stats down. Get him some mid-round action and hope he can shine for a cause that has real meaning.

Biden's accountant not pulling his weight.

Obamas: $481,000 gross income. $59,000 charitable contributions.  $98,000 in federal tax.
Biden's: $407,000 gross income.  $20,000 charitable contributions. $96,000 in federal tax.

Biden made $35,000 less and paid almost the same in tax.  Even if you subtract out the charitable contributions, It's $422,000 to $387,000.
Obama should have paid at least $10,000 more than Biden not $2,000.

At least Obama paid $9,500 extra due to the alternative minimum tax.  Nice to see someone else get boned by this parallel tax structure.

2014-04-12 10:01:05 AM
People who work for a living are taxed disproportionately high.  A trust fund baby can never work a day in his/her life, earn $1 million in a year off investment income, and get taxed on that income with long term capital gains treatment at 20% (it'll be lower if he/she has a good accountant).  On the other hand, someone working six or seven days a week pulling in $600k in a year will be taxed at a 40% top marginal rate.

For all of our lip service to "hard work paying off," our tax code sure doesn't reflect that ethos.  America is bullshiat.
