Wait, what?

Is Wendy Davis hosting a fundraiser for Willie Nelson's debts or is Willie Nelson hosting this for Wendy Davis' campaign?

Read the article twice. Still not clear on that point.

Meh, I wouldn't worry about too much if I were Gregg Abbot though. Houston's not a big BBQ town.

/I keed.
//This is actually awesome news.
///Dammit, now I want BBQ.

When I first moved to Austin, I was stressed out from not finding a job yet, so I went for a bike ride.
I was near the UT campus when a Summer rainstorm popped up, so I rolled into Memorial Stadium to get out of the rain.
As I pedaled along under the stadium, a big silver Mercedes pulled up and parked in front of me.
The door opens, and Willie Nelson gets out. I said, "Hey, Willie". He smiled, waved, and walked into the locker room. He was a good friend of Longhorn Coach Darrell Royal.
At that point, I relaxed, 'cause I knew Austin was going to be awesome.
Still is.

That was exactly what I was wondering.  And no, I'm not going to click the article either.  Wendy Davis and Willie Nelson are both okay in my book, but neither are on my ballot.

How long has it been since Willie was busted for pot?

Finally, something the republicans won't biatch at her about*. Willie is basically hallowed ground.

*=Yes, I ended a sentence with a preposition, because I speak English and not farking Latin

I heard that he had to good grace to allow Toby Keith to hang out with him on his bus after a show in Texas just a few years ago. Toby K. came out, shot his mouth off about the smoke that pervaded the bus, some numbskull cop decided to have a look see and ended up busting Willie. From what I understand, the Chief of Police was really pissed off at his officer.

Just goes to show how you can fake being  as cool as Willie Nelson, but if you're really just a dick, there can be blowback, on other, more worthy persons, making you look about as uncool as it gets.

From what I understand, that passes for being cool in Texas these days I guess.

This is the sort of grammatical nonsense up with which we should not put.

It's really not.  It's a brisket town.

/a lot of people west of the Appalachians have trouble understanding how BBQ works
//and a lot of people south of the Lumber River
///and north of the Rappahannock
////and west of Lake Norman

Oh, great, another food snob thread.  Bad enough when it's pizza, but when it's something vile like BBQ where you have to slather on nasty sauce just to make it edible?

Proper, God-fearing eastern NC BBQ doesn't use sauce for flavor. That all starts with the heretics in Lexington and just gets worse with the heathens to the south and west.

I wasn't sure, either. In fact, I'm not entirely sure who needs the money more.

Whatever dude, it's all about the Memphis dry rub. Smoke it low and slow, it'll be spicy, juicy, and the meat's so tender it falls apart in your mouth. If people need to put sauce on your BBQ, you're doing it wrong.

/901 represent!
//Corky's is actually a rip-off of my grandad's and uncles' recipe
///Of course they took all the heat out of the rub and overcook it so you need their sauce. Gotta appeal to the mainstream

You take your vinegar pigs and keep 'em to yourself, heathen.
