The people of the Ukraine sincerely appreciate your advocacy for them on Fark threads.  Someday, Putin will read these and pull his troops back.

What's the big deal? It's the farking Ukraine. Do you want to go to the Ukraine? Do you want to live in the Ukraine? NO. No one wants to live in the Farking Ukraine. That's why there are so many Ukrainian immigrants all over the place. They have been trying to get the fark out for centuries. It sucks living there. It's cruddy real estate.
Wah wah wah, gas reserves.
You want a pipeline in your back yard? Didn't think so. Plus every one speaks some sort of guttural dialect that is just different enough that no one can understand anyone. It's is like living in a City with 25% Bostonians, 25% Louisianans, 25% Wisconsinites, and 25% Oakies. No one knows what anyone is saying.

Hey, Neville. Remind me how well appeasement worked historically? Putin just wants some Lebensraum, anyway. If we give him the Ukraine, I'm sure he'll stop and play nice on the international scene in Europe.

Tell me, if you were Chamberlain, what would you have done? Without having the crystal ball of knowing WWII was about to happen, would you have started another world war because Germany wanted an area of majority ethnic Germans as part of their country?

You can't stack units in Civ anymore. It makes it more realistic since since late game units just mow down early game units, but you can spend some gold to upgrade them so you don't have spearmen in 1800 a.d.

Besides, appeasement effectively increased the size of the front. A bigger balloon is easier to pop.

You do realize that, had the League of Nations actually acted against Hitler, that they would have had a substantially good chance against the German army, and would have stopped the Nazi regime from even rising to the power it had before the invasion of Poland, right? If Europe had abandoned the policy of Appeasement as late as 1935, WWII would have  never happened.

Yes. And if we had a time machine, that would be a great thing to tell them. These were people who had lived through the horrors of WWI though so they weren't excited about another war which was a "good chance" at stopping a regime that they had no clue how horrible it would turn out to be. There are crystal balls in real life, but unfortunately, they're just expensive paperweights.

So I ask again, would you have started a war because people in Germany wanted the Sudetenland which was majority ethnic German to be part of Germany?

Now come on, after they take Georgia, Ukraine, Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, and maybe Moldova, Romania, and Bulgaria, they will consider stopping after liberating Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and a half other *stans.

If it makes things better, we discovered yesterday that apparently everything he's been saying has been with respect to an alternate reality where Russia was an unstoppable juggernaut. With a dominant military and economic powerhouse, Russia would be capable of acting unilaterally without fear of harm from the west due to their insulated economy.

If the Germans were prevented from seizing the Rhineland, with their pitifully small army at the time, a lot of bad stuff doesn't happen. If Germany has to fight it's way through the Czech defensive fortifications, it doesn't go well for Germany.

Dude we all know the rationale behind Chamberlain's appeasement. He's simply pointing out that we shouldn't repeat the same mistakes of the past.

Draw imaginary lines on the earth.

Herd people who speak the same language and worship the same god together on your side of one of the lines.

Print money, make flags, shoot people on the other side of said line.

Rinse, repeat, profit, gxive people medals.

History has been doing that for years.  To little avail.  History, in it's most valuable aspect, is largely unemployed.
