Hum if removing the odd yellowish mass that wasn't supposed to be there instead of removing a minor organ solved the issues you were having at the time, I hardly place blame on the surgeon.  I think I would have informed the guy, "When we went in to remove what was causing issues with your appendix we found that there was this tumour/giant clump of solidified bile (which ever it was). Instead of removing the appendix we're pretty sure this will solve the issue but if you have further trouble please do come back."  Then bill his insurance company a ton of money.
