Hopefully, In before all the hyper over-reactions.  I disagree with Hank Aaron's particular take in this matter.  I can do that without it changing the respect and admiration I have for the man.

I had a chance to have a conversation with Hank years ago. A VERY nice person who also told some incredibly awful stories. I give him a pass for anything due to some of the hatred he has seen. I has my then 4 year old with me and the kid was shocked and hugged Mr. Aaron. Hank smiled and thanked him.

Besides, didn't he just have a hip replacement for falling down in the ice storm?

Mr. Aaron makes some valid points.

Yeah, if you watch the last episode of Ken Burns' "Baseball" (it's on Netflix) and go to when Hank broke the record, you'll realize where he's coming from.

Comparing Republicans to the Ku Klux Klan, or to three strikeouts?

Yeah, works either way.

This. It disappoints me to hear this coming from an otherwise rational man, but I still have his baseball cards and the kid that I was thought he was great, and I still do.

I'd say that only most Republicans fondly wish for the return of the KKK to power, but certainly not all

Well the biggest thing I love to hear is how a politician can't be racist because they're a democrat.

Whether you're left or right doesn't mean you can't be both.

Also, its not even close to what it was back then and if people can't realize that then they are insane or stupid.

They're even worse than the KKK.  They screw everyone over.

And this offends the Ku Klux Klan?

So if someone happens to have black skin you can't criticize or question him without being racist?

I'm sure the same rule would apply if Herman Cain had been elected president.

He told the truth. The rise in racist groups since Obama became president is fact. I realize there are a lot of white "conservatives" who don't want to admit that fact, but it doesn't mean it's not true.

We DO have a long way to go. Sorry that's tough for you to accept.

Ah the old "no one is against Obama because he's black, it's just his policies" bullshiat.

All those racist groups that have sprung up since his election are policy driven. Got it.

Well, if he said that "there has been a disturbing rise in openly racist groups since Obama became president," he'd have a point.

And if anyone ITT had said "no one opposes Obama out of racism," you'd have a point.

But he didn't, so he's doesn't, and no one did, so you don't.

What racist groups? I can think of one; the TEA Party. Which am I missing?

Also, Bush had a whole bunch spring up during his election win (ie Move On, Code Pink). It isn't that rare for groups to form up against a president's policies, since they are, you know, the president.

I'll give Henry a pass on this one.  The dude played in the negro leagues, was amongst the first group of players to integrate the South Atlantic League, and had his life threatened on a regular basis because he had the gall to break Babe Ruth's Home Run record.

2014-04-11 05:59:19 PM
Yeah, I'll have to respectfully disagree. I can see where he's coming from, but I don't think ALL Republicans are racist.

just most of them

It definitely lowers my respect I have for him. He went through a lot of crap to break Ruth's record and got a lot of crap from white people during that time, but playing the KKK card is crap.

Fark Aaron.  Stay out of politics.  You were pretty much universally liked and respected at least over the last 20 years.  Enjoy your twilight and stay out of the race baiting.
