Hi All!

This one....Luscious, got in to her first 'knock-down-drag-out' a few days ago. I've never seen her so dambed pisst off! She outweighed the little piss-ant by at least 7 pounds and was sick and tired of him doin' the "I ain't touchin' you" bullying! After the shrieking melee, he ran up the cat tree and she didn't let him down for five hours! She didn't come out of the fight unscathed, however. Just got her back from Sainted Vet with an ointment (and a bag of pillpopper treats....don't have to give her any pills, but dang!...she loves those goodies!) Her cornea is scratched & her eye looks ugly...(and was hurtin' me!)

My local TV is still about 3 weeks away from opening up their greenhouse. They pretty much stick with potted plants; I don't recall seeing trees/shrubs there.

She resisted today, but that's rare, the boys know who the soft touch is! I rarely have to deal with this, but my Wegman's Genoa Salame has a similar effect on them. The boys don't like spicy foods, they leave me alone if I'm getting into the pepperoni!

Okay update time...
For those that missed the way late update last week, I'm flying solo for a couple of weeks with sno woman in Europe hunting down her family tree.  There is a ton of other stuff, taking up way too much of my time, I won't bore you all with, but the current charges have had their various snips on Monday and have been recouping here, before going back tomorrow for adoption.  The momma cat, Bella, has been a bit of a handful, compared to the other mommas we've fostered.  She is wee, and young, less than 2 for sure, probably way closer to 1, and even though still nursing, was in heat last week (!) crazy. And kinda aggressive with the resident cats. We've had to keep the house divided with this lot, which was mostly working until Bella figured out the door handle...  anyway, her kittens are great, the girl, Boots, is going to be a lovely companion cat to someone looking for a lap cat. And the boys, Flynn and Toby, are still boys, tumble buddies, and scrappy, will be fine cats themselves.  Bella, fixed, as the hormone soup thins out, is settling in to be a lovely cat too. and in spite of being basically a black cat, is wee, and young and cute enough she will adopt out fairly quick too...

And some pics...

Heh.

Speaking of Porsche owners......

I have been at the same company for 10 years, and the one manager who came closest to acting just like Lumbergh from Office Space drove a......you guessed it.....a Porshe.

/Had pics of various Porsches he had owned over the years all over his office.
//Not kidding.
///A total douche for sure.
////There was a story going around that he had bought a car for his (much younger) girlfriend.....when she broke up with him soon after, he called her parents and asked them to tell her to give it back.

He's had not a bad week, but yesterday and today have been all barf & sleep, barf & sleep.  Poor lil fella.  We're giving him super deluxe snuggles and lots of patient lovin'.  Hopefully he'll feel better soon.

Went for a bird-watching walk today.  At the top of the hill, it suddenly felt like I was the one being watched.  Turned around, and what did I see in a yard across the street?

img.fark.net

Best bird photo of the day: Northern Flicker on a telephone wire, trying to decide whether to release a bomb on me or just fly away.
img.fark.net

The rest of the day consisted of nothing but stoopid blurry birds running and flying away!
Oh well.  Was a nice walk regardless.  I love Spring sooo much.  :)

Good morning, Caturday folk! I hate to start the day out this way, but for those who were following Moo Kitty Sissy Doodles the best feral Lawn Warrior to ever sanctify my hand with her claws, she has sadly charged the Rainbow Bridge. Her coronavirus test came back positive, she was sliding very quickly and exhibiting neurological symptoms, so Wednesday was spent getting lots of love, being told stories and lots of chicken baby food before we helped her across just before 7 pm.

We gave it our best shot, but with acute FIP, there's really nothing you can do. Many cats survive coronavirus, but there are always those unlucky few whose illness take the course Moo's did, and in those cases it is 100% fatal. My mom and I are both devastated - I was SO CLOSE to having her socialized enough to get to the vet for Felv/FIV tests. shots, etc and then just having a ticked off cat in my house for a while! - and my mom is frantic about the other cats that roam the neighborhood, but I'm going to focus on the positive. I'm remembering the happiest day of Moo's life and it wasn't spent being hand fed baby food on the bed I made for her on my bathroom floor. That was terrible, though she was purring. The happiest day of her life was in the back yard, killing invisible fairy dragons. There must have been a whole swarm of them, because she was busy at that for a while. She won, of course. :-)

So, just like every other death I've been through, let's not be sad (though I am) and dwell on loss, let's celebrate the good things we do have and just post pictures of cats.

Thanks everyone for your help and support. I really can't thank you all enough.

You did the best you could for Moo kitty. She was socialized enough that she came to you when she needed you.
She was not alone at the end and you have closure. Without you she would have been alone and unknown at the end, instead she found love and comfort.

I have to brush him almost daily in the summer. Being part malamute he sheds continuously in large chunks of fur.

Oh, hai everbuddy! I had to take a short break from trying to pack up my entire life, since I just got blindsided by a couple of things - which of course, I need to share with the only people who could possibly understand how miserable I feel right now...

Let me preface this by explaining that I have a thing for small wooden decorative boxes - I have no idea where I got this one, or what it originally contained - but when I opened it, it was like an arrow to my heart.

i415.photobucket.com

Yes, I DID used  to keep the white boy's whiskers when he lost them (don't ask me why, I don't know) and that is the fang he lost a couple of years ago ....  what ripped my heart out was the "Reflections" thing on the lid of the box, considering what it contained.

Then I found this: (yes kids, that IS a Polaroid pic, feel free to vacate my lawn at any time) and it was right next to this bookmark...

i415.photobucket.com

I was gonna post one more pic here that I had in mind, but I have too much to do to go looking for it, so I will call on Caturday (well, one of you at least, you know who you are) to do it for me.

 ='.'=

Adding to belated hatching anniversary wishes to q_j and Older Guy...may you have many more and may they all be good!
RWDA, what can one say? Except that Freya and Bast probably look upon you most kindly for the care and love you give to their own...

YAY! For Drew (may his beer never run out!) passing out TF...
my first thought was "Gotta tell the Caturday gang...we've got a bunch of liters and TFers who need renewed!" but apparently y'all know already.

I'm learning how to do things while wearing wrist braces. Apparently I'm not having enough fun, so now I get to deal with carpal tunnel syndrome. It HURTS...but the braces help immensely.

Honestly, when I said "Oh gods, what next?" it was a rhetorical question, not a request!

BTW, while I have not (and probably will not) have time to keep up with the entire thread, I know for a fact that condolences are in order for Real Women Drink Akvavit -  I have no words to make it better - just rest easy knowing that you made a huge difference in one small homeless cat's life - by providing love, care, gooshy food, and most importantly -  a helping hand when it was needed most. It hurts, and it always will - wondering if you could have done more. Trust me, I know.

Look what my kitty, Petey, brought in the house this week! He has discovered the bunnies that are living around our house. He has brought in 3 so far, although I am not sure if they the same bunny or three different ones! They are so cute. He brings them in and lets them loose. Fortunately, we are able to catch them and release them in the neighbor's yard. He (or she) is actually a lot smaller than the picture shows.

There's likely a word in ze German that expresses the unusual combination of sadness and admiration I've felt for you through the entire ordeal of that kitty just showing up in your life, but I don't speak ze German. At any rate, I'm grateful you shared the story.. it was alternatively humorous and very heart-touching.  Keep fighting the good fight. :)

There may be something good that comes from this. I am quietly grieving and watching my mother grow increasingly concerned about the preggers either stray or "I have highly negligent humans who don't bother to feed me, let alone spay me" kitty in our yard. I call her "The Spaz". Moo kept The Spaz (and Ooma and Yeti and Squeek and Honkey Cat all the other cats that pop in on a regular basis) in line. They were seen, but usually only from afar or if Moo was resting after a hard bout of wholesale slaughter of things only she could see. Now The Spaz is not leaving her station by our door making us believe she truly does not have a home. Which of course is upsetting my mom because mom thinks she's a very cute cat (she is - she looks like mini Gogh!). Who is maybe homeless. Who my mom keeps saying "I think she's pregnant" (Oh, yeah. Pretty sure she is with that belly and her nipples starting to stick out - I took a claw to the hand to find that out) Mom's brow is furrowed with worry.

My mom might just grab that cat. I don't know. She's feeling very guilt ridden that she just didn't tell me to go catch Moo and we'd all deal with it months ago AND she doesn't want anything to happen to the cats that are out there, either. The Spaz is obviously starved for attention, but wary. She will hit you with her claws out and she's unbelievably fast. She screams constantly for kibble/attention but tries to tear you a new one after a few skritches. She is not leaving the back yard at all anymore and she and Gogh give each other head boops through the sliding glass door. (Gogh really likes other cats - he's a buddy cat)

I told my mom "If you want to make a plan for that cat, I'll help you and just grab the cat, but you need a plan in place first". That's as far as I feel like taking it. I just can't cope with much of anything right now. Besides, if my mom is the one that says "will you go get that cat for me?" then SHE is the one with all the worry and stress of tests (theoretically - we know I'd stress, too). I get to post pics of mewbies when they are born and ask everyone if they want a kitten. I can be the cool Cat Aunt who isn't a cat.

On one hand, I don't want another cat right now. We have Gogh. At the same time, I kinda hope she tells me to go get the cat for her. I'm incredibly conflicted. The cat is unpredictable and I think that's all that's stopping her right now. Especially since she keeps asking if I think The Spaz will calm down if she comes inside. :-/

I'll have to charge my camera and see if I can't get a pic of the little trollop today or tomorrow. When we first saw her coming around we thought maybe Gogh was outside then it was like - "hey, who the name of Lady Hel shrunk my cat?" They do look quite a bit alike in coloring and floof.

She resisted today, but that's rare, the boys know who the soft touch is! I rarely have to deal with this, but my Wegman's Genoa Salame has a similar effect on them. The boys don't like spicy foods, they leave me alone if I'm getting into the pepperoni!

I prefer to look at it as an example of the great balance of nature.  Take my own life, for example...

Sure, all those industrial chemicals and that ionizing radiation I sucked in out at McClellan kinda sucked.  But it mutates the body just enough so that the virii and parasites I sucked in from Asia don't really have the same kind of effect on me as they do on prime, grade A tasty people.  And with the amount of liquor I consume, it balances out (in my mind) all the Bingham-tard Trash I so desperately want to shoot and kill every day.  ISN'T LIFE WONDERFUL!?!?  >:-{D

Hi all, I know that I have been a "Debbie downer" the last couple of weeks, but some really good news this week. The pregnant feral cat that last week stopped trying to "kill me" and sat in my lap has been spoken for. She has a fur ever home as soon as the kittens are old enough. The kittens have been spoken for as well (Yay! My teenager was severely hinting we needed two more cats). On the minus side, the adopter is acclimating her and I'm now in the way and not needed. But she has a secure future which is what counts.

I have sorta beaten the severe depression I was in last week. Not quite there yet.

The thing that broke the depression was our larger, incredibly unintelligent cat. I came back from helping out one of my wife's clients to hear Gideon screaming. I rushed inside to find out he had gone into a bathroom and the door shut behind him. I opened the door and this blurr ran to the litterbox. Then to the water dish. Then to my lap to meow for half an hour "explaining" the horrors of being trapped.
(Seriously, someone really abused him before we adopted him. If I knew who, they would no longer be alive). To only have it better as his "slave" came home from school where the whole thing had to be explained again on his lap, this time for over an hour with two water and one litterbox breaks. Even though it is still a little cold, I opened up a window for Gid to sit on and enjoy fresh air which helped his mood a lot. Sorta not happy with the kid but I understand. I came into the room later to see the open window, and an ELECTRIC BLANKET on high underneath the cats, my kid's doing. The cats were very happy curled up with their noses pressed to the screen getting fresh air.

Real Women Drink Akvavit: Good morning, Caturday folk!

/I might be a bit scarce, but I'll be around

Somehow, somewhere, I brave Feral Lawn Warrior knows what you did for her and lervs you for it.  And that lerv will not be wasted now or into the future!

Oh, hai everbuddy! I had to take a short break from trying to pack up my entire life, since I just got blindsided by a couple of things - which of course, I need to share with the only people who could possibly understand how miserable I feel right now...

Let me preface this by explaining that I have a thing for small wooden decorative boxes - I have no idea where I got this one, or what it originally contained - but when I opened it, it was like an arrow to my heart.[i415.photobucket.com image 640x480]
Yes, I DID used  to keep the white boy's whiskers when he lost them (don't ask me why, I don't know) and that is the fang he lost a couple of years ago ....  what ripped my heart out was the "Reflections" thing on the lid of the box, considering what it contained.

Then I found this: (yes kids, that IS a Polaroid pic, feel free to vacate my lawn at any time) and it was right next to this bookmark...[i415.photobucket.com image 480x640]
I was gonna post one more pic here that I had in mind, but I have too much to do to go looking for it, so I will call on Caturday (well, one of you at least, you know who you are) to do it for me.

/ insert (IWANTMYDRAGONBACK.pic)

IMHO, sounds like, somehow, someone is trying to send a message to you.  I think the message is: life goes on.  Don't be afraid to keep living it in happiness.

I know it doesn't help much, but I used to have a rescue Turkish Abby. She shed like crazy and her fine hair got into even sealed electronic displays. I used to cry when coming across the hairs, now 15+ years later I still find some but they now bring a smile to me remembering an awesome cat.

Question for the 'experienced'......

At the end of this month, my four Mistresses will be moving with me to a place 6 hours away. While I was at Sainted Vet (for the white Queen, Luscious), I asked for...and got...a 'sedative' for the long car trip. It's Acepromzine. They cut each of the 10 pills into quarters. The tech said to 'practice' ... ô¿ô to find the right dosage. Hmmm. She said that the reaction is different in each critter - kinda like some people get buzzed on one drink and some people can drink more with no 'effect'... Apparently, it doesn't go by weight. Here's my ????...
Is it possible to dissolve the 1/4's and administer with an eye dropper? I'm planning to start each of them with 1/4.

2014-04-11 03:40:19 PM
Begin CSB, WoT...

Caught the little bugger that was tearing into my bread loaves while I was out!

Haz a mpuse problem.  Was considering getting D-con bait, or a sticky trap.  Short of cash, so I was contemplating a little dumpster-diving and getting some scrap parts to construct my own moosetrap in my cave here in upstate nowhere.  Happened through dollar store, saw a 4-pack of really cheap, chincy looking mousetraps.  The old-fashioned kind with the wood base and spring snapper.  Were only a buck each, so I bouht them wioth pocket change and took 'em home.

I baited them with a wad of the same bread the mouse likes to eat.  Poured myself a bunch of margaritas, passed out on the couch, and got up about 1 AM-ish to get something for the munchies.

There, on the kitchen counter, was the trap with a very dead mouse in it.  Neck nearly cut clean through from the trap.

I did it very quiet happy dancec (the neighbors downstairs were all sleeping)  and proceeded to get a cold slice of pizza and a bunch of vodka cokes.  Went in the living room, watched Dish Nation and PBS Inner Fish reruns until I passwed out again.  Good times, good times  :-{)

Spinnyr,
In my humble opinion, as a somewhat trained professional, you can dissolve the pills in a tiny bit of water. You can also get tuna juice and just have them lick that. The bottle will say "may crush" or not. If it can be crushed, it can be administered any way to get it in to the floofies.

I traveled with Misty via plane....Tampa to Nebraska and back..and by car a few times....I gave him acepromozine.  I recommend shoving the pill down their throats. Then you know they get it.  (and yes, it can be done....I pill 2 cats every day, every single day....I taught my 68 year old neighbor how to pill her cat and she does that every single day).  It can be done!

BTW, Misty was very relaxed on the drug.

That is AWESOME! A friend gave me a book on Quantum Affirmations (it's a thing - really!) and asked me to "translate" for her saying "Well, you ARE native to California, right?" I was all WTF? does me being a Cali chick have to do with it? The WTF? really took off when I read that book. It read EXACTLY like that page. I obviously didn't read the whole book. She didn't ask for it back, either. It's got a CD in there that I have no clue what's on it. Whale sounds would be awesome, in a weird way. Whale sounds with rain and thunder would be even more awesome. Because, ya know, CALIFORNIA. It would totally work here.

Spinnyr: Question for the 'experienced'......

Crush and put in their food....

Here is Shop Cat.

This little guy was brought into the shop I was doing work on my truck in November 2012 due to being abandoned by his mother on the farm. He was starving and pretty weak but got food and the warmth of the heated shop for the night. This, being a multiple day operation, to replace the fuel injectors was the perfect place for this little guy to grab a piece of my heart. His determination was strong.

The following morning, feeling much better,  his determination for friendship became clear. He would climb up the tire and squish himself between the inner fender and frame rail of the pickup, pulling himself up by valve covers and finally getting a good look at what was going on. Placing him back on the floor and out of the way was no use. He wanted to see what was going on and would soon be back in the engine bay.

He grew into a amazingly beautiful cat that was very much a friend of mine. When I would show up to farm and he would see me he would come running happy to see his friend. We would share some scratches and purrs and then he would be back off on his own business. This went on all of the summer of 2013.  He was a free cat on the farm and, as a male cat, was free to do as he wished which was often multiple day trips gone. I have not seen him since September 29th 2013. I often thought of bring him home, but I did not want to take away his farm freedom. I wish I could see him again.

I've lurked long enough and thought I would share this.

Had a chance to love up the barn cats.. Boo and the little female. Her ear is tipped..former feral momma all snipped now. She is quite the hunter. And she is teeny! 6 lbs maybe? Great ride on the other pony I ride..much better manners than the last time I rode him. Evidently my instructor and the owner have been riding him when he gives the young kid shiat.

Real Women Drink Akvavit: Good morning, Caturday folk!

/I might be a bit scarce, but I'll be around

Sorry to hear of your loss. We must celebrate the times we have together. And not let the ones that take us apart weigh to heavy.

Latest about Spouse's broken arm: It turns out to be a "comminuted fracture", (i.e. broken into several pieces), mid-shaft Humerus. Her arm is being held together with a fibreglass splint, several elastic bandages, and a large "swathe strap" holding her arm close in to her body. No cast, as such. She does comment about feeling it 'click' if she moves her arm too much, but otherwise is in good shape. All things considered.

(/brag on)
I knew she would need help getting around for the short term, until her arm was pinned or whatever. SHE insisted that she would be fine while I was at work. Uh-huh. Right. Needed help dressing, un-dressing, and various things one would scarcely not hardly ask a friend to help with, can't drive, etc. Heck, I was even helping the X-ray tech holding and positioning her arm for the pics!

I was right. I knew what I was talking about. This ain't my first Rodeo!
(/brag off)

Well, good news about Spouse's broken arm: Went to the Orthopedic Surgeon today (Friday? 6 DAYS after it broke???), to find out if it needed to be pinned/plated/screwed or what. He decided that it was holding together well enough with the replacement splint(actually affects the broken area) that surgery would not be necessary. Which is good news finance-wise, but she won't be able to move it around for weeks like she would had it been pinned solid.
At any rate, she seems to be in good enough shape after the first week that she can manage on her own at home without assistance, so I called in to work and put myself back on the roster for the next assignment that comes in (Temp. construction).
So, all in all, things are going well!

RWDA, many have said it so much better than I'm about to but you're a good human, Moo knew that enough to find you. And I'm not going to finish that thought, 'cause there is a lot of cat hair flying around here, getting in my eyes, cat hair of cats off to be adopted, that I'm missing, a lot more than I should be.

Well, Eli is still out, I kinda hate to call him in on such a nice night.

On the way to school I had to break for three different squirrel younglings in the road..didn't you listen to your Momma?

well, I am glad she is able to do for herself. Just do not let her over do. It will affect the healing process. Tell her I said, bask in the attention..ask for icecream, chocolate and wine/ booze of your choice. It is only fair that you get something out of this mess!

Agreed. The "raging sea" being the rest of the world.

I really enjoy to hear from the Caturday folks. I am going to try to be more involved.

the flying hair, and the tears it produces, are simply a sign of our love for our animals..there is no finer gift, than the gift of self. Applies to hoomans and to our critters. And you are correct. Moo knew who to come to for help. Even if it was to cross the bridge. It says a great deal about RWDA, that she was the one who Moo trusted to make the tough decisions. Oh, to be the one who is trusted to cross another over. It is a gift, and a great sorrow.

Bella the momma...

She was such a sweetie the last couple of days as the hormones drained away... She's going to be a lovely companion.

Boots, the lone girl... of all our fosters she is the only one I'd call a lap cat, a very special girl...

Toby, a cutie...

and super playful.

And Flynn, the other boy...

note the paw, claws out.  This little guy is a big time climber. Every time I'd be in changing litter, he'd jump on and climb my back until he was on my shoulder, then he'd settle in, like a parrot. lol

Spinnyr: Question for the 'experienced'......

Yes. I recommend crushing the pill first (wrap it in piece of paper towel and use a pair of pliers/sledge hammer/brick etc.) ... then dissolve in just a touch of hot tap water and administer as needed. Tuna water works great for this type of short term medication (whether you use an eye dropper or just let them lick it up). NOTE: I got the same sedative from my vet when I moved the white boy to my current place - and yeah, practice would have been in order (IMHE, these pills seem to take quite a bit of time to work - it never seemed to help the white one during the actual move, but then again, he never got up for the next 48 hours except to eat, drink and poop). Good luck.
