Remember, police tend to be all shooty in situations

There, I cut out the unneeded words in the headline

2014-04-10 08:55:24 PM
The police will shoot you, and they will get away with it.

2014-04-10 09:46:30 PM
This is why you should never, ever call the police unless you absolutely must.  They are more likely to fark you up, shoot you or arrest you than they are to help you.

2014-04-10 10:00:50 PM
They only shot two out of three of the victims?

Benevolent Misanthrope: This is why you should never, ever call the police unless you absolutely must.  They are more likely to fark you up, shoot you or arrest you than they are to help you.

The lesson to take from this is that  even if you absolutely must.. like, say when there's a crazy guy running around murdering people, still think twice about picking up that phone. You just might have better odds against the (non-uniformed) murderer.

The Stealth Hippopotamus: Lenny_da_Hog: They only shot two out of three of the victims?

I'm guessing they ran out of bullets

at least the attacker with the knife made it out alive so he can be a burden on the taxpayer.

FTFA: "Believing Winkler was the assailant and the assault was ongoing and he would attack the entry team; three deputies fired their duty weapons at him. Victim Winkler was struck by the gunfire and fell to the floor, and the male victim also collapsed; struck once by the gunfire."

So...in addition to shooting the actual victim, who they thought was the attacker, they also shot the person they thought was the victim and who they were trying to protect.

That's some fine police work there.

Will Westboro picket this funeral, since it was obviously a "gay thing?"

Remember, police should never risk themselves to help you.

Their lives are of the utmost importance.

Yours? Not so much.

Tell me, why should I respect a man that puts on a gun to go to work, but draws the line at personal risk?
Why should society pay someone to protect us, if when the chips are down and the risk high, they only protect themselves?

farking cops.  Killed another innocent person.

Pretty sure Tosh will still make a joke or two about this.

"Stabbing suspect Alexander McDonald has been charged with one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder, and one count of torture,"

So then, what were the cops charged with?

Sounds like the first two charges should go to the cops involved in the shooting.

2014-04-10 11:32:14 PM
Interim Sheriff John Scott called the shooting a "tragic event...I have no doubt the entire Sheriff's Department mourns the death of John Winkler." Later Sheriff Scott was informed that John Winkler was not the actor who played The Fonz on Happy Days. He replied "Ah crap happens then I guess."

/Interim Chief Vick would have never let this happen.

2014-04-10 11:35:04 PM
In fairness to the police, if you only shoot one out of the four, you only have a 25% chance of hitting the assailant, and if you shoot three of them, you're guaranteed to hit two victims with a chance you may even hit three.

Shooting two out of the four gives them the best odds of hitting the actual assailant while minimalizing collateral damage. It's still only a 50% shot though, so you can't blame them if the odds didn't come up in their favor this time.

Decisions, decisions.

They will get a month's paid vacation and then we will be told that decisions made in the heat of the moment shouldn't be Monday morning quarterbacked.

Well I say, as someone who pays these motherfarkers. That we need some accountability because an innocent man died and another one was shot and could have died.

I'm not advocating jail but it could be time for a forced career change if they can't make shoot/no shoot decisions any better than this oh and TERRIBLE farkING ACCURACY but I guess that's a blessing in disguise and the reason the original victim is still alive.

To be fair, the cop did yell "Stop resisting!" before firing.
Or not.

America's funniest youtube videos can be pretty funny.

I am waiting for Tosh to tear the police some new holes too.

The LAPD (or sheriff's dept, in this case) doesn't even assume anyone's innocent anymore.

2014-04-10 11:55:20 PM
The "good" news is that we shot and killed the guy we mistakenly thought was the perp.

The bad news was that we also shot the guy we thought was the innocent victim.

2014-04-10 11:56:01 PM
And this is why if some police officers tragically gets mowed down while writing a ticket I don't really care anymore.

I remember the good old days too.   3rd row at a Poison concert, Cow Palace, South San Francisco, 1986.  A chick threw up on me and I got a few good gropes in.  She didn't seem to mind.

::sigh:: memories.

I had a similar thought; like "OK, I think I know why I shied away from programming... already a little close to the edge as is!"

I'm just fine studying Philosophy and Linguistics... you know, the two fields which nobody respects but everybody exploits to sound clever. :)

Am I not reading something right?  It sounds like the victim was attacking somebody at the time they were shot.

Only police when judge when they make the right decision.

Now lets wait six months or longer for an internal police hearing to make sure nothing was done wrong.

Attacking someone... running for his life...

what's the difference, right?

Indeed.

Let he who has not mistakenly murdered someone with a trigger happy finger cast the first stone.

Oh wait, that's... almost everyone.

Let's try that again.

Let only he who has murdered someone out of inept fear or poor judgement cast the first stone. As they've proven they have awesome judgement.

/had a cop pull a gun on me IN MY OWN HOUSE at 3am (let himself in), without a warrant, AND WITHOUT ANNOUNCING HIMSELF, looking for someone THAT DIDN'T EVEN LIVE THERE
//but who am I to judge retarded cops with shiat judgement? right?
///if I'd carried my gun to the living room to investigate my dogs going nuts one of us would have probably died that day

Oh, we get that shooting them was the safest thing for the cops to do in the situation. We even understand that it's scary, and a safety risk. We don't understand why we're paying and arming them to just watch out for themselves. We thought we were paying and arming them to put the public safety first.
