I've always wanted to see a firetruck just push a car or of the way.

Then when Captain dickbag tries to give the bill to the city, they just hand him a ticket back with a nice "FOAD"

Firefighters knowingly risk their lives every day to save people they don't even know. These ones also trashed a BMW. Why no hero tag?

They do. My roommate right after high school was a fire fighter. He said the best part of his job was busting the windows out of every car parked anywhere near a hydrant, when they had a blaze to battle.

But i can see why they needed to move the car back.

MacDonald said firefighters don't go out of their way to damage property as they were forced to do by the driver of the BMW.

Not that they dont enjoy it, but thats totally their right.

You know, the only problem with this is that the hydrant is lower than the windows.  If it were higher, then you could also get water from the hydrant connection to run down into the car, destroy the interior, and really do it up right.

What's the difference between a BMW and a porcupine?

A porcupine has all the pricks on the outside.

I believe it was during a defensive driving course that I was told that firefighters have the choice to push the vehicle out of the way with their truck, or bust out the windows, and since firefighters take pride in the appearance of their truck, they likely wouldn't want to scuff the bumper that way.  And besides, I'm sure it's fun to bust out the windows like that.  And sometimes those hoses do leak a bit.

Not to be "That Guy" or anything but, if they had to pick the car up to move it, why didn't they move it out of the way in the first place?

I guess I don't understand their manly ways...

Push it out of the way. With the bumper. That sits over car bumper height. At about 10 mph. That kind of "push it out of the way".

They moved it a short distance.  Moving it a greater distance to completely clear the hydrant would have required more time and energy, and could have lead to someone injuring themselves, all while they should have been fighting the fire.

Depends on which version of karma you're talking about, it's not like there's only one religion which espouses the idea.  Karma under Hinduism can affect you in this life, for instance.

Smashing the windows is so unnecessary.....when they have those hydraulic jaws that can pry the doors open.

I bet the hose was damaged by feeding it through the car windows. They really need to bill the BMW owner for a new hose.

Why can't they publish the name of the BMW owner?

It was only a 328. An M3 or 335 owner would not have taken a chance.

Between the glass replacement, the body damage and probably the water damage, which im hoping none of would be covered by insurance, im sure its gonna cost him a lot more than $100...

Time, primarily. The first thing they wanted to do was get water flowing. They only moved the car later because the initial setup was kinking the hose.

A simpler answer, of course, is rage (and rightfully so). If you some jerkface's beemer is preventing you from doing your job *and* possibly endangering people's lives, are you going to be more inclined towards a solution that protects their valuable property or one that lets you smash up their car with a fire axe? Most people would gravitate towards the axe-based solution.

About a year ago I was directing traffic at my kid's high school for a Marching Band invitational when we had to physically move a car just a little bit to let the buses out of their parking area.  It took 6 of us to move it a few inches, and that was not trying to destroy any of the body work or separate tires from rims.  If you don't want your car damaged, park where you are supposed to.

Just saw this story on the Boston news, where they interviewed the car owner's brother. The reason for parking in front of the hydrant:  he wanted to just quickly check on his friends in the area since there was a fire.

Farking brilliant.
