FTFA But why so pricey? Well here are the ingredients: black Iberico ham from pigs who have roamed "free in the pasture, eating acorns" because obviously, artisan sourdough bread, 40-year aged cheddar infused with 24k gold flakes, 100-year-old aged balsamic vinegar, white truffle aioli, foie gras, heirloom tomatoes and a duck egg. Oh and it comes with a portion of lobster mac 'n' cheese.

Any of these that use gold are just doing to to pump up the price.  Why have an ingredient that imparts no actual flavor?

Um, that's a ham sandwich.

2014-04-10 03:09:30 PM
Is there a pickle shpear on the side?

Ditch the gold (WTF?) and foie gras and i'll try it. Not for $100, but I would eat it if someone gave it to me.

A little silly that they talk about the animal welfare of "pigs who have roamed 'free in the pasture, eating acorns'" yet another ingredient is foie gras.

But you know someone has got to add their opinion...

I'd go as high as 24.00 just because of the lobster as a side seems fair.

That's not a "grilled cheese," and it sounds pretentious as fark.

2014-04-10 03:13:20 PM
A) No it is not warranted
B) Not a grilled cheese sandwich (it's a foie gras and duck egg sandwich with cheese from the look of it)
C) Gold flakes?  Why the fark are people paying for food with gold flakes in it?  It doesn't add anything to the flavor.  You could just sprinkle some body glitter on it.

It's not about their welfare. It has to do with their environment and diet affecting the taste of their meat.

2014-04-10 03:15:08 PM
Forget the gold, the 40-year old cheddar goes for something like $10/oz or more.

2014-04-10 03:15:30 PM
Gold doesn't taste like anything. Anytime any chef puts gold in a dish or drink, it's just to claim it's the most expensive whatever.

Truffles are almost as bad, though they at least taste like something.

It's assumed you have a chamber maid that will empty your chamber pot - and the gold is for the lulz to be had when the maid sees your sparkly turd and says to herself: "He actually does shiate money!"

I found some 2-year-old cheddar at the bottom of the fridge, but I doubt anybody'd want to eat it much less pay for it.

Also the idiot who gets the $16 "Kobe" burgers you see in tourist traps, especially cooked medium well, you are just an idiot. (For various reasons)

Anyone paying $100 for any grilled cheese sandwich should be beaten in the head with an iron pipe.

While it's true that the gold adds no flavor, you can't just replace the gold with body glitter, as the body glitter DOES have a flavor. It tastes like desperation, tears, and daddy issues.

Also...

Unless that sammich is being handed to me by a naked hooker with a line of blow on her tits, it ain't worth a C-note.

I see what I came to say is covered.

If you put meat into a grilled cheese it ceases to be a grilled cheese.  It is now a panini named after whatever meat is in it.  Also gold in anything makes me not want to eat it.  Why would I intentionally ingest metal?

Beyond that, I hate foi gras, so I would nix that, but everything else sounds kind of good.  Not $100 good, but I would pay up to $40 to try that meal (with the lobster mac and cheese).  However, I better taste the truffles for that price.  I'm basing this on the fact that I order a lot of lobster mac and cheese, and usually that alone is around ~$25-35 at many "nicer" places.

For that you win a real grilled cheese.

I think the fanciest one I ever ate had three types of cheese and a spicy mustard

But it is mixed with mac & cheese!  Why mix lobster with trailer park food? I mean, I like mac & cheese, but the taste would overpower the lobster.

And also no, $100 is certainly not warranted.
