Always a good sign when your new, expensive closer has a dead arm a week into the season. I'm sure that will work out well.

Meanwhile, in New York...  Valverde has a Blutarsky ERA with the Mets.

This is probably not something you want to advertise to your opponents.

When I first heard about his dead arm comment, I thought "Dude what the fark are you doing saying this out loud to the media?!"

Tigers reliever? Did he wear himself out banging all those skanks?

So, it's called "dead arm?" I can finally put a name to my three years of playing college baseball.

/once gave up 3 HR's in one inning, one of which is still in low Earth orbit
//best game was a 3-hitter, so maybe I wasn't that bad
///who am I kidding, yes I was

Thing is his dead arm is better than your arm was at 100%.

This is what he pitched like his first year with the Rangers. He was solid last year though.

You got that right. My fastball topped out in the upper 80's, maybe 90 if I ate my Wheaties, and my off-speed stuff was just average. I saw many kids who threw heat, but never developed the ability to pinpoint location or throw a 6-12 curve, slider, or other knockout breaking pitch. Gives me an appreciation for what even average MLB pitchers can do.

As a Tigers fan, I'm more than a little concerned about their bullpen.

A 6-12 curveball is harder to throw than a 12-6. I'm an idiot.

Yeah a 6-12 curveball would be a thing to behold.

The Fister trade, which led to Smyly leaving the bullpen, is looking worse and worse. Smyly has been the only reliable arm out of the pen so far.

And I love these west coast games where it's 2 in the damn morning when the closer is blowing a save and I'm still watching on TV.

aahhh joe 'let em go' nathan. glad we got rid of him.

iirc, the rangers only brought him in with two outs in the ninth and a four run lead.

just to be safe.

Compared to most people you were great. You were only bad compared to other college baseball players.

I just don't understand why Ausmus put Joe in after he said that.  It used to be Leyland's old adage "Well he's our closer.." I hope BAus isn't buying that logic.  If a guy admits he's hurt, or ineffective, then he shouldn't be put in, period.  Dead arm at 39 years old... he's done.

Second week of the season, and Thursdays already make me feel shaky, like I'm missing my baseball fix.  Here I am, reading about a relief pitcher in the  other league.
