Gee. I wonder who the Germans are going to blame for this financial mess.

the welfare state.

eventually you run out of other people's money.

i wonder how much money germany has transferred to other european countries over the past century.  boy did they get the raw end of the stick by being in the EU.

Germany is a socialist hellhole welfare state too. So that's not really the problem, but thanks for bringing your agenda.

Perhaps it's the Teutonic work ethic.

I'm not sure what world you've been living in for the last, say, 20 years... but Germany helped found the EU and continues to push for further integration of member nations. The EU is their sword for subjugating member nations such as Greece.

The difference, of course, being that Germany's welfare policies are backed by actual revenues.  Spending money you don't have IS the problem, and now the asshattery of other EU countries is going to continue to hurt Germany.  So much for being responsible...

Well, controlling the fiscal environment to benefit your position while simultaneously undercutting those that you're 'helping' isn't exactly a 'raw end'.

Germany absolutely REFUSES to allow interest rates to increase because it would decrease the advantage they have over the other countries on the euro, even though it would help Greece and other low performers pay out their debts.

The whole 'a rising tide lifts all boats' only works if you actually work to raise the tide for everyone - but that doesn't really work when it requires those on top see it as a zero sum game.

Right. The problem isn't 'Soshulisms', it's a lack of revenue. See the point here?

Right. The problem isn't fighting a 10 year oil war off budget; it's a lack of revenue. Got it.

Yes, but the real solution would be for other EU countries to actually force their residents to pay taxes (OMG!).

Given that that will never ever happen, I guess Germany has no choice but to continue subsidizing everyone else's lifestyle at their own expense without any expectation of repayment, and yet still be somehow painted as the bad guy.

Oh I agree. Like the side who wins the war, the people who spend the money get to write the history.

So long as that spending money is not out of that same pot you just gave them.  That would seem raise red flags, wouldn't you say?

The headline, article, article summary, and headline article don't really go together.  That's likely why the comments in this thread are a mishmash of told-ya-so's matched up with confirmation biases.

Just make up whatever this "proves".  You knew you were right all along.

They have the Teutonic work ethic, one of the weakest welfare states in Europe (at least as concerns things like retirement age, and that's not to say that it's weak), a *brilliant* internal and central position, and the result of literally decades of infrastructure building.

/Oh, and super-high IQ's.
