What's the big deal about those crap shoes, anyway?
2001-12-09 12:41:58 AM
allow me to perform a public service right now.

<Insert crap about sweatshops here.>

That is all.

$165 for a pair of farking shoes
[image from too old to be available]
Those shoes better be the best goddamn shoes I have ever worn. I best be on the verge of orgasm with ever step if I am going to pay $165 for a pair of shoes. Hell I better be able to run effortlessly to work at 70MPH every day if I am going to be paying $165 for a pair of farking shoes. Hell I think that I will just stick with $20 Cons.

I just made a pair: the login is FARK, of course.
2001-12-09 12:55:20 AM
which over-paid athlete endorses these? Do you think its terrible that I despise all of these trends? Paying too much for items which offer little other than "same product, different packaging"? yet.. its a degree in advertising I am currently pursuing.

i am a hippocrite, and you the general public are all sheep.

Code_Archeologist Didn't you hear? Converse is done, no more Chuck Taylors :(
2001-12-09 12:55:58 AM
You got that from, didn't you?
2001-12-09 12:56:52 AM

Nike denies customer's request to have his shoes personalized with the word 'sweatshop.'

Erica057- I think Mr. S. Head (second post in this thread) beat you to it.
2001-12-09 01:09:49 AM

i'd pay to see that.. if i had a job... and wasn't lazy... and hadn't spent all my money at that canadian bar... and on that stripper... lap dances get expensive..

no no no Army of Fun, Converse went through a reorganization a few years ago. But you can still buy Chuck Taylors from the Converse website. Though they no longer cost $20 a pair, sadly.

Check out the red pair in my pic. They turned down "Swtshop" though.

2001-12-09 01:18:55 AM
Army Converse is down, but not out. They are still making Chucks, but they are now using overseas labor. Converse is currenty trying to either restructure or sell out. Here's the story
2001-12-09 01:20:43 AM
yeah it will not take swtshop... but it did accept

2001-12-09 01:25:58 AM
for what these pieces of crap cost, you can buy non-sweatshop shoes that are a lot better anyway. (Ecco, Mephisto, etc)
2001-12-09 02:47:20 AM
Wow I can make my own hideously ugly shoes with worthless 'springs' kick ass Jass! Shoes are so ugly now a days. Archiologist where the heck do you get Cons for 20 bucks? I had to pay 30 for the low top ones ;p Funking pickle...
2001-12-09 02:51:45 AM
forget shoes! take $5, get some cheap beach sandals, and through a blowout party with the rest. That's three entire BOTTLES of Patron! Three bottles of Sapphire plus gallons of tonic & limes! Two kegs of good beer!

my shoes were $20 at walmart or similar a few years ago. yeah, those new custom nikes look good. But only seven letters? I'm going to spend not $165 for shoes, how about NOTHING for a damn Sharpie and I can write not a single word, but whole *paragraphs* on my shoes! My life's story! woo!

oh, sorry, coffee kicked in a little hard there. sorry.

I tried to put NikeSux, but it got rejected. It also rejected Adidas and Reebok. Greedy bastards.
2001-12-09 03:03:28 AM
Damn, who really gives a rat's ass about Nike and their shiat shoes?Go to Payless Shoes, spend $20-25 on some lesser known brand, call it good for shoes for a year.

Who posted this?I demand blood...

But I still can't put the words "Made by Child Labour" on the side.

for those that haven't heard of Jonah Peretti's interaction with Nike ID program - check out for the correspondence and for the full details.

Uhhh.. whenever I go to that site, the whole dealy is half off the top of my screen. I can only see step 2 and below. That's pretty lame.

Same for me, Albrot
2001-12-09 11:18:55 AM
Pay-Less,of course..It's the only place I can find decent 12 W...
2001-12-09 12:20:40 PM
What the hell.
2001-12-09 01:01:02 PM
Albrot: I'm having the same problem with the webpage aligning itself way off-screen. I've been on the web for 7 years and I've never seen that. Freaky.

Bokononito: Thanks for the link, it was interesting

2001-12-09 07:02:02 PM

Funny, it let me make these:

Try droping down the shoe selection box...

The AirKukini iD's are nice...

I like the all black with the gold webbing... Slick

However nothing will beat a good pair of classic premiums...

here is a link to another article about the shoes Nike wouldn't sell. This one with a pic

Does it take "SW34TSH0P?"
2001-12-10 12:40:36 AM
Albrot & Feffer:

A lot of web designers complain about how Netscape isn't as compatible as Internet Explorer (CSS and crap like that...blah blah blah), but when I use Netscape, the Nike customization page shows up fine.

However, when I use Internet Explorer, I get that weird only-half-the-page-showing-up behavior.

Hmmm...stupid Microsoft.
2001-12-10 02:09:29 AM
No browser is w3c compliant. They just all suck at it in different ways.

If someone seriously wants "sweatshop" embroidered on their shoes, I'll do it for free if you pay shipping.
2001-12-10 02:12:17 AM
One farking evil company. They also put in orders with small businesses, then back out right before purchase (after the merchandise has already been branded with their logo), and then offer a ridiculously low purchase price to "take it off their hands".
2001-12-10 04:20:26 PM

$70-$90 and fully customizable... Down with Nike!
2001-12-10 05:00:43 PM
I don't care much for Nike shoes, and not much for "sweatshops" either... but you don't seem to realize that there aren't better jobs there, or they wouldn't have anyone to work. Believe it or not, Nike is actually helping their economy.

I'm NOT saying it's right, but if Nike tried to make shoes here in the US, it would have to pay "skilled labor" 25+ an hour, and the shoes would be about 600.00 a pair.
