Not well liked..... had a history of making death threats.....  Jesus nice job folks.   I'm going to toss my money on kid is bullied, no one does anything, he makes threats, no one does anything, then he goes cray cray and here we are.

Good thing he apparently didn't have access to a gun and was to stupid or lazy to google how to make a bomb.

Occasionally in high school I would fantasize about picking up my fork at lunch and stabbing the jocks I hated. Kids today, well they are just doers and go getters, not like me that just thought about it and never did anything.

I think part of it is 0 tolerance. Back in the day when someone was a prick you could fight back and get left alone. If you got in trouble at allit wasn't that big a deal. Now a lot of these kids have the options of taking it forever or getting expelled for being in a fight.

In which case I'm ok with this.  the way to send a message to bullies is to kill them.

Isn't that always the story? The only thing missing is, "school authorities discounted/ignored his violent tendencies or allowed him to be bullied".

Well to be fair... He did fight back...  the fact that he used a tool to even the odds doesn't change the fact that someone who was bullied finally snapped.  If you want to blame anyone for this incident the people who bullied the kid should be facing charges if anyone.

How does a person know when a death threat isn't sarcasm?  I've heard people make death threats and I knew they were airing their frustration.

I'll admit that the increased number violent incidents in public schools is terrible, and that it is a worthwhile effort to learn how and why these events are more common, but you can't have the thought/speech police hanging over a student body like a sotrm cloud.

Kids that age take everything so seriously, and they have an overabundance of energy from being cooped up in classrooms all day long. With all the hormonal changes they are undergoing, irritation, anger, and violence are bound to happen.

There's a lot of blame to go around. First, kids should have more physical education time, both to improve their health and to use up their excess energy. Second, kids should have the chance to study topics which interest them and the schools should have learning tracks that facilitate this. Kids should be occupied, idle hands are the Devil's workshop. Finally, in combination with the first point, kids spend too much time playing video games. While I don't think video games are destroying the moral fabric of impressionable young minds, I do think that the sedentary and isolated lifestyle it encourages leads to kids becoming fat and cliquish.

Kids are all timebombs waiting to go off, and modern American culture doesn't give them enough pressure relief outlets.

I don't know why society or whatever has to be to blame here. Sometimes crazy folks go crazy; best you can hope is to spot it in time. But this shiat is incredibly rare. For every nut who goes through with his death threat, there are a thousand that don't. We could take uberharsh action against those thousand, but I suspect we would end up with a cure worse than the disease (i.e. some of the 999 may act on their threats).

The reason society is to blame here is the inaction of society to properly deal with bullies.  Then we as a society act shocked that a kid who was bullied everyday of their lives finally snaps and takes care of the problem.

If you or I acted at work, the way these bullies do in school we would be arrested or at the very very least fired.  I don't see why high school students get a free pass to violate the law on a daily basis.

Yeah. Seeing more and more of punishing the victim these days. The anti-bullying campaign is just a way for schools to show their doing something.

Oh I think bullying is a problem that needs to be addressed. Just not sure if that quite explains what happened today. Stabbing 20 people is not a normal reaction to years of bullying - it is a psychotic reaction that indicates problems far beyond bullying.

But, I agree, the other kids should be ashamed of their actions.

Not dealing with the issue doesn't work either.  Kid makes a death threat? Investigate and have mandatory psych rivals. Not a punishment as much as it is a "We need to make sure you're not a psycho," response.

I'm going to take a wild guess that, when you were younger, your parents kicked your ass if you stepped out-of-line.

Maybe not (too) painfully, but enough to get the point that actions have consequences, that the world didn't revolve around you, and that it makes more sense to just put your head down and deal with what you don't want to deal with so that you can maybe learn from it.

Sound about right?

Whoops...damn iPhone typing. Let's try this again:

You know what I'm not seeing a lot of in this thread? The "typical thug" label applied to this kid. Speculation about his possible drug use. Saying that he needs to be put down like an animal. And more to the point...that his actions are somehow a reflection of his culture.

I didn't see anything in the article saying the kid was bullied, just that he wasn't well liked. Yet he seems to be getting the benefit of the doubt that somehow this attack was provoked, and not something he did because he's a violent criminal.

In fairness, I didn't read the entire earlier thread, so maybe all of this was addressed there. But somehow I doubt it.

I'm thinking that this story has to be fake.  Every time there's a mass shooting in a school and the gun grabbers start talking about banning guns, the gun nuts counter with why not ban knives too.  The gun grabbers always say that would be stupid because nobody can stab multiple people. So there we have it.  Fake story is fake.
