Just a real shiatty story, I feel bad for the husband.  I also feel bad for everyone that this kind of thing is completely unsurprising.

Because a cuckolded husband is the epitome of a reliable source on the man who had a fling with his wife.

I find a disingenuous republican hard to imagine.

Well, he apologized to God, so that's good enough for me to re-elect him on the family values ticket.

The character of Peter Russo on the first season of House of Cards dealt already spoiled this story for me.

If someone from TPM is here, I want them to know that advertisement videos with sound (and no controls) are the ONLY reason even consider installing Ad blockers. Too bad as the reporting is often acceptable.

Furthermore, it makes me irrationally despise your site and have feeling of rage whenever someone uses the phrase, 'talking points.'

Well, many very religious people believe that they can both sin repeatedly and have eternal salvation because, you see, all you got to do is ask Jesus to forgive you after you sin, and, bam, all is forgiven.  It's good to be born-again.

The Religious Right is neither.

Well DUH. Using religion to manipulate society in to enriching them personally has been the central strategy of the Republican party for what.... around 40+ years now?

That's why, under the influence of this strategy, popular christian beliefs have become more and more satanic and extreme - and less and less actually influenced by the philosophy of Jesus. It's inevitable... When you mix religion and politics both are corrupted by each other. The only way to keep your religion or your politics healthy is to keep them each away from the other.

How about actual surveillance video of Vance McAllister sticking his tongue down the throat of his paid staffer?  Would you believe that?

"I don't see how we can have a separation of church and state in this government if you have to pass a religious test to get in this government. And I want to warn everyone in the press and all the voters out there if you demand expressions of religious faith from politicians, you are just begging to be lied to. They won't all lie to you but a lot of them will. And it will be the easiest lie they ever had to tell to get your votes."

I've got to confess, I gave up Catholicism for Lent a long time ago, but, yah, being repentant was always seen by many in my church as, "feeling a little bad about it, I better say the rosary 50 times."  But I'm probably a little biased.

(For a 6 year old cheat, Pascal's wager always struck me as more of an insult to god than even the "death bed conversion."  "You believe in me only because it will increase your odds of going to heaven? GTFO")

And the one doing the cuckolding, and the wife abetting it, are pillars of credibility? At the very least, his voice on the matter -as a now ex-confidante- deserves to be heard. And considering how how the numbers of unreligious from both parties perennially are, when asked as part in anonymous study, it would exactly be surprising if he was telling the truth. What reason do you have for impeaching a hurt man and defending a wife-snatcher anyway?

And if they're of a Calvinist bent they don't even need to do that, as they're likely to believe they are among the Elect and the Saved, chosen by God for an eternity in Heaven long before Earth was even a gleam in his eye.

Just to put this in perspective; you're arguing that people who believe that an invisible bearded man who lives in the sky and watches everything they do, hears their every thought, kills people through calamity at his whim, and will serve their interests with his magic if they ask him nicely enough, would never be disingenuous enough with their expressions of regret to ask for forgiveness when they don't feel they've done wrong or fully intend to do it again, nor that they would be self-serving and prideful enough to think they might pull a fast one on said invisible magic sky wizard. And of course, this all assumes they actually believe this stuff, rather than just mouthing the solemnities for the sake of reap social reward.

You should automatically assume that ANYTHING that comes out of ANY politician's mouth EVER is an intentional lie. Yes, even that politician that you really like. He or she is a bald-faced liar, I guarantee it. If a member of Congress told me that water was wet, I would immediately become skeptical about the nature of reality. Fortunately none of them would ever say it because it isn't a lie.

Amongst Washington insiders, it's a well-known fact that every statement from a politician is a lie.  Before the impeachment process was ratified in 1789, Congressmen who had shamed the country were forced to read aloud the line "This statement is true," thus causing their heads to explode.  Impeachment, like the guillotine, was introduced as the more humane option.

nmrsnr: Because a cuckolded husband is the epitome of a reliable source on the man who had a fling with his wife.

Maybe not.

However, if the cuckolded husband is the donor of over $10,000 to the Congresscretin in question ($5,200 each from him and his wife), and is therefore someone who is pretty likely to know where the bodies are buried, I'm apt to believe him.

In other words, think of him not as a cuckolded husband but as a campaign donor who got farked over and has decided to dish out a little payback.

You know who else used religion to sway his constituents?

2014-04-08 09:29:55 PM
Just keep in context what is actually going on here.  McAllister is in favor of Medicaid expansion while Jindal refuses to do it.  The guy ran as possibly the most sensible Republican to come out of Louisiana in a long time.  He ran around the religious right wackos that control the Louisiana central committee and he beat the Governor's hand picked candidate.  Also, McAllister's office is in a building owned by an active Republican who did not support him.

So they have hidden cameras in his office.

What is really going on is a Republican dirty tricks attack.  At some point someone should start asking who bugged this Congressman's office and installed hidden cameras.  There may be a federal crime going on.

I don't support any of these Republicans and enjoy watching them kill each other.  But frankly, this particular guy was well known as "too liberal" for the real wackos.  And the wackos may be attacking him using criminal means.

This dude has one term written all over him. Doesn't matter if this statement is true or not--it's going to stick in voters' minds for sure.

Shame, because by modern GOP standards, he's actually somewhat moderate (i.e., he actually thinks his state should take the free money from the feds to give more poor people health care coverage).

2014-04-08 09:45:56 PM
That's okay,   most of his constituents aren't  religious either, they just wield religion as their weapon of choice in the   culture war battlefield.

That would be like the universe dividing by zero. The very fabric of space and time would begin to unravel, and reality as we know it would cease to exist.
