I have to believe that is the case, because my good cholesterol is so high that most of the quick read machines can't calculate it, and bad cholesterol is crazy low. I eat pretty much the same stuff as my wife and her cholesterol is totally different.

Your facts doesn't lead to your conclusion.  Everyone is different, but diet does have a fairly significant affect for those who aren't able to naturally regulate it.  I'm lucky that I don't have to worry about cholesterol very much, but my wife's levels are based very much on her diet.

Think of it like type I diabetes - Most people are able to regulate their blood sugar just fine, and have no issues eating a candy bar.  Those with diabetes have to tightly control their diet to get the same control.

I don't need Viagra. And I need fewer Cheeseburgers.

Also, I don't need a dune buggy, a goose trap, Nescafe, denture cream, or about eight million other things.

What are we talking about again?

Hmm. So, what you're saying is whether or not someone has ridiculously high cholesterol is dependent on other medical conditions, not their diet?

No, it's that dietary cholesterol doesn't seem to influence serum cholesterol. Other factors (refined sugars and trans fats appear to be nasties) do.

That Guy Jeff: Hmm. So, what you're saying is whether or not someone has ridiculously high cholesterol is dependent on other medical conditions, not their diet?

Did you not read what I wrote?  It's a multiple factor issue.  The poster I was responding to was leaning toward believing diet had no affect at all.

For some people (fairly small numbers), their ability to regulate cholesterol is based on their own body chemistry, and it's nearly impossible for them to consume too much for their system to regulate.  However, for most people, they must regulate it through diet.  If they eat a typical American diet, they will have high cholesterol and triglycerides.  If they consume more vegetables, whole grains, etc, and less animal products (meats and cheeses), their cholesterol will go down over time.

So for most people, their diet is an extremely important component to cholesterol regulation.  Not the only item, but a significant one.

Having a significant other might also be a help.

Oh, you see, when you said that sugar intake was fine unless one has diabetes (~8% of the population), that wasn't a good simile for "most people" being negatively affected by cholesterol.

Diet has an influence. Dietary cholesterol has little influence except in a relative few with genetic predispositions.

If your dick quits working, it's a symptom of poor circulation, not a problem in and of itself. Dick pills, like most of the other very profitable medications, only treats a symptom of a much larger problem.

I wasn't intending for the metaphor to extend to similar percentages across the population, only the effect differences between groups with and without the condition.  I suppose I should have been more specific.

Ten reps with a 50 pound kettle bell will do much more than your yoga.

If you can approach sex like a 10k fun run then you probably won't need little pills. If you can approach it like a half marathon people might want to see you at it.

That's interesting. I've been on large quantities of statins since my heart attack, and I've noticed a certain improvement, er, down there.
It said nothing about this in the list of side effects, so I had attributed it to loss of weight.

It eases blood flow through a type of vessel concentrated down there, as well as in your sinuses. This is why a common side effect is a stuffy nose.

Eat more beef. Grow your own testosterone.

IIRC, Viagra helps with the production of nitric oxide, which allows those vessels to dilate. Haven't read much about the other dick pills, but I imagine blood flow is involved.

Am I the only one who noticed the thing at the bottom that correlates erectile function and having a cell phone in your pocket?

I know correlation does not equal causation, but...

2014-04-08 07:01:54 PM
Maybe erectile dysfunction is nature's way of telling you to put it away as you are too old and unfit to even consider reproducing.

OTOH Viagra is what lets you have sex and cheeseburgers, so why do without if you don't have to.

2014-04-08 10:51:39 PM
I got ahold of a viagra one time. Man, they weren't kidding. I don't have trouble (other than a bit of performance anxiety) with wood, but this was something else. The complete and utter inability to pass air through my sinuses didn't help a bit, though.

/one of the few times I was with a woman who wanted, nay, demanded buttsecks
