A different article states he contracted MRSA during one of his surgeries.  These kinds of cases are really getting worrisome.

"In February, Thorpe's representatives confirmed the swimmer was battling with depression and prescription drugs after police found him in a dazed state in a stranger's car. "

Wow.

That's a pretty big fall from being the most successful athlete in the 2000 Summer Olympics.

There's a big difference between "lose" and "lose the use of", subby.

Well, when you consider that he has spent his life up to that point intensely focused on and devotedly training for one thing; and has done so in a sport that is notoriously lonely in its training regimen: it's actually surprising that we don't see more "former child athlete" featuring gymnasts and swimmers than "former child star" stories.

And even if they amputate it, they would still know where they put it, so it wouldn't really be lost.

CSB

My dad worked in the printing department at our university hospital for about 10 years before I was born. When he was diagnosed with cancer many years later, the doctors told him he also had a low grade staph infection that he got from working at the hospital. Apparently (at least, this is what he was told), most people who work in hospitals end up with a low grade staph infection for life but it isn't something that is talked about.
