And they'll get it.  This thread will be filled with people attempting to prove just how much they hate PETA.  People will even make devastating arguments that destroy PETA's credibility.  They will pretend that this matters.  It doesn't.  There is no arguing with PETA.  They are not trying to have an argument.  They're trying to get your attention.  Every attempt you make to attack PETA only gives them exactly what they want.  You're actually losing, but you just don't know it.

PETA is like Westboro Baptist, but with hotter chicks.

Who wants to eat a vegan?  They lack flavor.

Organizations that survive on donations need to keep themselves in the news and in the awareness of the population.

PETA manages to do this. And in this case, they're not hurting anyone, and in fact, creating jobs.

I've got no problem with this.

Apart from the animals. They're hurting lots and lots of animals. Hurting them to death, actually.

/but on the plus side, they're creating jobs for animal executioners, so that's good

If Westboro protested gay funerals with hot, naked females in cages instead of picketing and yelling hateful things, I don't think they'd be quite so hated.

Since when has the welfare of animals played any part in arguments about PETA?

I don't usually care for PETA's usual self-promoting bullshiat, but this is a means that I have no problem with. Go start a restaurant where you can practice what you preach. Good for you.

20 years ago, PETA had a nationwide campaign that brought attention to the problems of greyhound racing, the treatment the dogs were victim to and how unwanted greyhounds were disposed of. It turned my stomach and, yup, it got me to 'rescue' (read: adopt) a retired greyhound race dog.

His name was Harry and he was about the most lovable, precious - if not stupid as a box of hair - dog in the whole world. I'll always miss him.

For that, I can earnestly thank PETA. They actually did some good. At least for Harry and for me.

These days, it seems like they've lost those roots in favor of being fantastic and over the top. Which is a pity because I sense it makes people tune them out in a hurry.

Too bad, that.

Except that isn't what this is at all - this is nothing more than an attention grab. I grew up in and work in this town. The house is zoned (rural) residential, no city water, no room for parking, and is built on a giant wooded hill. They even mention that in the linked article. Not to mention, it's 5 minutes away from a massive commercial/retail area with many better, cheaper restaurant locations. Even a moran wouldn't try to open a restaurant there.

Maybe, but they stay in the news and people talk about them, so they're obviously doing something to keep the ball rolling.

Just donate to the ASPCA every time a derpthread like this gets posted. You can enjoy the ride on Fark and do something good for animals to boot.

Greyhounds are apparently the most warm-hearted dogs around. Too dumb and too fast for their own good but they will love you like nobody's business. Retired greyhounds are probably more loving because their previous lives weren't too nice.

I remember PETA or some other animal right's group had grayhounds at subway stops awhile back to show how nice the dogs were and they were up for adpotion. I was walking with a friend who went over, patted the dog and asked the dog's name, where it raced... etc. When he was told, he acted all angry and screamed that he lost money betting on this dog and stormed off.

Actually, that's some fantastic justice. And seeing as how there wouldn't any animal products, nothing to get grossed out about.

Comparing Dahmer's actions with the behaviour of most normal people who know what the pointy teeth are for is pretty sick. But it's PETA, not any rational organisation.

For those of you who think PETA is harmless:

www.animalscam.com

A page from the 1995 annual tax return (form 990) of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), showing a $45,200 payment for the "support committee" of Rodney Coronado, a felon. Mr. Coronado was convicted of arson in federal court for the 1992 firebombing of a Michigan State University research lab.

Nice.

I completely agree.  They have become so attention whorish as of late that I'm inclined to ignore them no matter what.  PETA says I should damn Obama for swatting a fly?  Ignore.  PETA says greyhounds are being mistreated?  Ignore.  Which is too bad, because your story is the one that should be repeated.

Dahmer-knows pizza.

Thy could even have a Dahmer-nose pizza for meat lovers!

Dahmer was that guy who knew that a sandwich was just a sandwich but a Manwich®  was a meal!

It's a HOUSE. It has well water and a septic tank, so it's not equipped to manage even the tiniest restaurant without new wiring, plumbing, landscaping and a host of other changes.

Not to mention that it's not zoned for a business, as the article points out.

In this case PETAs AW crap is even worse than useless. All they're doing is reopening old wounds, hassling the entire neighborhood and probably killing the property values again, and ensuring the guy who owns the house now will probably never be able to sell it.

I find the idea of PETA purchasing Jeffrey Dahmer's childhood home and turning into a restaurant to be in very poor taste.

Easier to kill and eat a bunch of people then to get the zoning changed.

This is an outrage that they would take the residence of someone so dedicated to carnivorism and turn it into a slap  in the face to every meat eater out there.

And since we're throwing out recycled jokes from the 90's I'll point out that I just heard Dahmer had escaped from prison and was last seen headed toward Waco with several jugs of BBQ sauce.

Yep. PETA has become extremely efficient at making people hate them and question their cause. They are #2 right behind Westboro Baptist Church.
