From the article:

The church fought fiercely against the bill, denouncing it as evil and a threat to life.

Evidently, life in the Philippines could stand a few threats.

What are the odds that at least one of the judges ruling on the case had to try sleeping through a neighbor's baby crying the night before?

Uh, well, no, but I can go down the road any time I want and walk into Harry's and hold my head up high and say in a loud, steady voice, 'Harry, I want you to sell me a condom, for I am a Phillippino.'

Blame it on the church.
Oh they've done some wonderful things in their time, they preserved the might and majesty, even the mystery of the Church of Rome, the sanctity of the sacrament and the indivisible oneness of the Trinity. But if they'd let me wear one of the little rubber things on the end of my cock we wouldn't be in the mess we are now.

Condoms are nothing but a Trojan horse for secularists trying to warp church doctrine and change the lifestyles of its members. When did we lose ardur, exchanging the Papal Mitre for a secular crown? The price of paradise is obedience to the Holy See, and you can trust exceptions are purely through the grace of God.

The subtitles on that one were an awesome accompaniment to the scene.  While they didn't accurately match the words being said, it really set the tone of the mood...

Rush isn't really qualified to discuss the question of contraception in the Philippines.  After all, his only experience is with Filipino rent boys.

I disagree with Catholicism's definition of "sacred". In my view there is nothing "sacred" about having to live in a garbage dump, picking through garbage for a meal and for something with which to earn a few pennies. As a woman of compassion, if I can barely provide myself with the basic necessities than I'll be damned before I bring a child into that situation.....and fark that "then don't have sex" bullshiat! People have sex to feel good, sometimes sex is that brief escape from a terrible existence.

There is nothing noble about suffering.

I have no need for any of those bells and whistles.  I've got my trusty thimble.

As someone with a shiatload of Philippine in-laws the thing that strikes me about the place is the utter lack of anything like child support laws.  All these Catholic guys get their rocks off with impunity, and the women are stuck trying to raise the results with no support whatsoever.
