Her voice alone makes me contemplate suicide.

Geocentrism is still a thing people believe? That's off the potato scale level derp.

I think it's her making a house payment.

2014-04-07 05:11:38 PM
She stars on Orange is the New Black, which is pretty successful. I'm also currently listening to her narrate Joe Hill's NOS4A2 and she's really pretty terrific once you get Janeway out of your head.

She doesn't seem to be struggling. Maybe she's just insane.

this is certainly a possibility. after all, hollywood has produced class-a nutbags like michael moriarty, victoria jackson and chuck norris.

I thought it was well known she's a very conservative in her beliefs.

Canadian via Detroit. Rose to fame on a show filmed and set in NYC.

victoria jackson

Floridian. Did work the comedy circuit in Hollywood, but rose to fame on SNL, filmed in NYC.

and chuck norris.

I'll give you that one.

All I heard her say is "Everything we know about the universe is wrong". Considering about half the talking heads there are talking about dark matter and NOT geocentrism I think it's possible she wasn't aware of the nature of what she signed up for. I certainly think Michio Kaku can't be happy with having his position misrepresented.

Maybe they all thought it was a parody move? Or maybe it IS a parody movie?

Which is sad given how good for science other Star Trek alums have been.

Geo-centrists might actually be dumber than Creationists.

At least with creationism, it's all about interpreting (well ignoring actually) evidence of the past.

To see that the the planets orbit about the Sun, all you have to do is go outside and farking LOOK!

where do they fit in as compared to Flat Earthers though? That's the real question here.

In addition to Mulgrew, who played Capt. Kathryn Janeway in "Star Trek: Voyager" and "Star Trek: Nemeis," the film features several scientists, including Michio Kaku.

Really? I would submit that, one, that's precisely what got us an Earth-centic model of the universe to begin with, and two, even if one were to agree with the current "Earth is not the center of the universe" model we have, simply walking outside and looking would be but the first in a very long and somewhat complicated list of steps one would need to accomplish.

well, i think it was the elliptical orbits of the planets (and the seemingly retrograde motion that caused) that got copernicus and kepler to figure out heliocentrism, so you'd need to be pretty smart to just figure it out by looking.

The Flat Earth thing should be out the window after your first plane ride. Geocentrism isn't quite as easy. So Flat Earthers are dumber.

It's called a paycheck submitter.  You know the kind of thing that keeps decent, hard working people off of welfare.  You should try getting one, you might like it.

Not knowing anything else about her, if I were offered a gig to narrate something like this, I'd do it for exactly that reason. The chances that the filmmaker will actually convince of his dumbass theory is low, so the "harm" you're doing is relatively inconsequential. And it's always advisable to take the opportunity to separate a nutcase from his money whenever possible, lest he spend it on something that might actually be effective. And hey, you get a nice little paycheck out of it to boot.

2014-04-07 06:22:30 PM
Depends on how much she knew about the movie before she signed up. If she knew what the insane guy was going to babble before she signed: yeah, that's bad.

Much more bothered by the fact Dr. Michio Kaku would be in something like this. The Star Trek lady can say she was just acting.

You do have to do more than merely look. You also have to write down what you've seen over a long enough period of time to figure out the pattern.

/The looking part is pretty important though.

She's a bag of nutbars.  Her, Sisko, they both done lost their minds (have you seen Shatner's "documentary" The Captains?  MAN Sisko is bonkers).

Hell, even Stewart seems to be losing it with his goofy Gandalf selfies!

Who would have thought Shatner and/or Bakula would be the normal ones??

People appearing in such films are not always told the truth about how their appearances will be presented and/or edited. Someone like Dr. Kaku might think "everything you know is wrong" it a good way to start an intellectual discussion.

/offer does not apply if Kaku is actually advocating heliocentrism in the film. DNRTFA

No, to see that, you have to be willing to adopt some sort of external frame of reference. If you operate from the perspective that the Earth occupies a fixed point in space, then yes, everything does orbit around it.
