RedPhoenix122: WHY WON'T IT STOP FLASHING 12:00?

That is telling you that the countdown timer is paused at 12 minutes.  I could make it start counting again, but when it got to zero, your VCR would blow up and it might damage your house.  We could let it get closer to zero, but it's just better to have it at the 12 minute mark.

Walker: Hitting the start button and seeing what it says on the side also takes too long.

It's often hidden, but you can still find out from the Start button...

- Rectangular and green with the word START: That's XP.
- Round, no words, and "Start Search" at the bottom of the Start menu: That's Vista
- Round, no words, and "Search Programs and Files" at the bottom: That's Windows 7
- "The what?" - Windows 8

People running Windows 8 probably aren't even sure if they're running Windows at all.

The people that don't know are also the same people that can't see the website because of the hundreds of toolbars

powhound: ~25% of users are still using XP

And how many of those are people with machines that won't handle a newer version, and can't afford a new computer? Batten down the hatches, the fur's gonna fly.

If only Microsoft had given people years of notice that this would happen...  the bastards.

I use the 'User Interface Ugliness Rating.'

Do your default settings look ok?  You're running Windows 98.
Do your default settings look quite ugly?  You're running Windows XP.
Do your default settings look quite ugly and it runs slow?  You're running Windows Seven.
Do your default settings look like a child designed it?  You're running Windows Eight.
Does your computer crash before you get to see the user interface? You're trying to use Windows Vista.
Is your computer lying at the bottom of the local tip? You were using Windows ME.

Bathia_Mapes: Diogenes: You can quickly check if you are running Windows XP by heading to AmIRunningXP.com, a helpful website built by Microsoft.

Because going to Computer -> Properties is too taxing.

Trust me when I say there are people that are computer illiterate enough to not know they can do that.

Oh, no question.  They're the same ones who go to my mom because she's got a son "who does the computers."  And then I yell at my mom.
