That's been the case for years and it is nice seeing more people get into it.

One of the yearly local scenarios will rotate around to the Monty Python and the Holy Grail scenario (talking full weekend scenario here) - which is always a favorite and a total blast.  One of the things they do during the event is to gather all women from both sides and have a Castle Anthrax objective.  There are always more than enough.

I haven't been in years but when I went with friends from college the women would often get there frightened of it hurting but 10 minutes in would turn into frightening kill-machines. It was kinda sexy.

Oh, paintball. I read it as pinball and was wondering where I could meet these women that liked pinball. And where one could find a good pinball machine to play these days.

My wife went with me once and lasted 10 minutes and then hung out in the parking lot. It was only a stock class game (technically modified stock class for the purists out there) and it still scared the crap out of her.

I'm getting my gf into it this year. We're going with a friend of ours (who's female and a regular paintballer) and probably my old college roommates. Should be a hoot. We may be going to the local place's "take the town" siege scenario. Defending it sucks, but good god was attacking an awesome bloodbath (sending so many little kids (10-12yr olds) to their "deaths" never gets old)

I loved playing paintball. I've been around since virtually Day One.

It's unfortunately a fairly expensive "sport" though, at least it was...prices are starting to come down...I knew several people who played with paintball guns that were "more expensive than their vehicles".

I also happen to know the 4-time world champion paintball player Roddy MacDonald personally - great guy and he was an awesome ambassador for paintball.

Which brings me to my party creation, strip nerf.  Everyone is armed with a nerf gun, and the rule is every time you get hit by a dart, you have to remove an article of clothing.  For two or more players, so most Farkers are probably out of luck.

reminded me of my paintballing days back as a kid...  there were still some women who played even back in the 90s, and some of them were pretty good. i remember playing in tournaments, and there were women on some teams.

I think they've been coming down for a while.  Well, its just that you can purchase a competitive marker for cheap now.  I remember using my $900 Autococker for the first time.  If the timing was wrong or if you short-triggered...ball soup.  The first time I picked up stock Invert Mini (sub-$400), I ran two cases through it without a single break.  I didn't use my swab once in two days of playing.

Awesome. Haven't played since high school. Kinda doubt my old gun still works.. So I can get back in to a fun hobby, get exercise, AND meet some woman shaped people. Sounds great, now I just need to find a place to play or a group or something...

2014-04-07 11:09:08 AM
25 to 30% are women players? I played for a number of years and never noticed it more then 10 or 15% tops. You'd have a girl here, girl there - but I rarely ever seen any all female teams in Florida, only once near Miami.
It's a decent sport, I was invited to a few A teams, but just played for Rec purposes, my problem was back then paintballs were $70 a case, far to expensive considering I would blow that amount easily in an every day practice.

It was a fun sport, if the price was decent I'd probably go back and have some fun on a speedball course

Well, that didn't take long before the "Airsoft elitist" showed up. Instead of being a pompous jackass, how about you accept that some people prefer paintball over Airsoft (and vice versa)...and there's nothing wrong with that.

MassAsster: Yeah.... Kinda see Air-soft as the back yard game with acorns.

My thoughts exactly. I've seen and heard about many games that have deteriorated into near-fist fights / full blown fistfights because of that very reason. At least getting whacked with a paintball, you KNOW you're hit...and if it doesn't break when it does hit you, typically they don't count it.

I like both indoor and woodsball for different reasons.  Indoor you get more action, woodsball is more strategic.  Both have their plusses and minuses

Paintball can be a good time had by all, as long as you don't have the super macho testosterone set involved.  Most people out there want to try and have fun, but just like so many other things the super try-hards can ruin it for newbies.

That, and a-holes who keep their paint on ice prior to the game.

That's a myth when paintballs get cold they get more brittle it's why they have specially formulated paint for the winter.

I have never done indoor (there isn't any indoor places around me) but the place I go playing woodsball, they have a lot of forts and a decent town field with lots of interior to fight in. Clearing hallways is terrifying sometimes

THIS!!!

I love paintball, play as often as I can.  I bring my kids out there (15 and 12) and they love it.  We do casual walk-on games, and fullday big game scenarios.  It's insane, a great sport, and a great way to bond with your family, friends or co-workers.

I agree, I preferred woodsball because of the strategic aspect of the game, especially at night time - only problem is those damn paintball grenades were a royal pain in the ass if someone chucked one into your bunker.
We had a really great woodlands field in central florida, it was about 4 acres wide, with plenty of forts, and sniping positions as well as bunkers. It was right next to an old indiancemetery that dated back to 1800s, aweful lot of funny stuff went on in the woods.

/I guess the owners got tired of vandals and closed the paintball area down, something of a dispute with with the land owner and the church owner, there was a 4 wheeler track that went around the property, problem was people would go in there to smoke doobies and drink beer and cause problems

Around me the woodball field is basically a forest and the forts are small shed sized places.  So mostly its take cover behind a tree and shoot towards a window.  Sounds fun though to have a full building with rooms and hallways to fight in.

Am I the only person that prefers tourney ball to rec ball?

3 man supAIRball, whether indoor or outdoor, is where it's at. Fast paced, lots of games, clear objective, clearly defined boundaries.

And you don't get shot in the ass by some smart ass kid that walked out and sat in the woods for 20 minutes, waiting for you to walk by him....

Love me some paintball. Had a friend who owned 100 acres out in the middle of nowhere. Lots of trees, and had ropes on some of the strongest branches we used to swing on when we were kids. I was probably the shortest and lightest of my friends, so I'd climb one of those ropes and chill on the branch with my rifle and snipe them, since the vines were probably not sturdy enough to carry their weight and their paintball equipment.

I usually carried some firecrackers in one of my pouches, and would toss them away from my tree to scare the shiat out of people or lure them away from my position -- or just to let them know that I was around.

Had to stop playing when my friends grandfather cleared most of our playing field to make room for a barn and a pathway to it. :(

I refuse to play against chicks. Extra chest armour is no fair.

2014-04-07 11:57:47 AM
I've been playing for years.  A group of about 80 of us get together and rent houses up at Jack Frost.  We usually play 3 games on a Saturday, each based on a different theme (we've done Star Trek, HALO, Logan's Run, Days of Future Past-type game with Sentinels & Hounds hunting mutants, etc.)  and it's a blast.  I'd say about 10-12 of us are girls and we're all pretty damn good shots (which is always fun when we get new players on the opposing team.  "Pffft...they've got *girls*.  Bwhaha--" and then we light them up).

oh yeah, the one I play at is a lot of obstacles for most of the fields (wood spindles, shelters like tepees and packing materials) but they have a couple of fields with great forts/structures. One, called The Wall is a two towered "wall" with a bridge connecting the two towers. Another, Barter Town, is a Mad Max like fort in the woods made of discarded "trash" (like an old burger king sign), the third Ghost Town is a wild west town, with a wall surrounding it that has both an upper open-air walkway and a lower, enclosed hallway. Lots of buildings and whatnot in the middle field. They do a scenario every year where one team of 50-60 kids sieges the other team inside the town of 30 or so good players. The battles will last hours. Then we swap after we eventually take it and get our asses handed to us by the good players in about 30 minutes

meh... i don't think one has more or less strategy, they just have different strategies.

i used to play tournaments on speedball courses (before they went all blow-up bunkers) and wilderness courses.  there is a lot of strategy no matter what you're doing.  but, i loved 3 man speedball the most.  it is all about finding shooting lanes, letting your teammate hold down the guy in front of you, while you found a line on the guy in front of him.  (shooting at the guy in front of you is just dumb luck who wins, shooting at the guy who is shooting at someone else is strategy).

running over the top of a bunker is strategy, it needs to be timed, coordinated, and executed.  you need communication, and you need to know how your team works together.

in 5 man or 10 man wilderness play, all that also applies, but the unreliability of bunkers and the distance between teammates actually tends to decrease the dependence on strategy by increasing the importance of luck.   however, since you have more people, it's always irresponsible if you don't account for luck in your strategizing.

so, yeah, both have a lot of strategy that's different.  speedball type play has more apparent strategy, and is more like basketball strategy.  wilderness play is more like soccer strategy.  if that even makes sense.

You... You play Airsoft? That is awesome. My loadout is nothing too special, but it gets the job done. M4 AEG that hammers away at a smooth 410 FPS, with a pair of full metal CO2 1911's as backup that clock at 420 FPS. No complaints about any of the guns. And to those who think of Airsoft as the backyard kiddie game with acorns, you haven't been nailed by a .20 gram heavy pellet at 400-450 FPS. Hurts like fark even through clothes, and leaves bruises. Granted, the bruises are smaller than a paintball crater (played that too for a while), but in my opinion they sting waaaay worse.
