A three-prong test for every doctrine:
* Question its basis
* Ask if it can be verified by the sights and senses of the common people
* Ask how it is to applied and if it will benefit the greatest number

maybe they had some doctrines that were really 'out there' and nobody had any idea wtf they came from.  Hence there would be some need to be verifiable by common people, or maybe the verification applies to seeing that it is applied,

Can't watch in real time, but just dropping through to say Hi to everyone!

Hey IronTom - it finally got warm enough that I could keep the smoker up to temp.  Did a couple racks of ribs today, plus a 2-quart batch of AwesomeSauce.

Dinner porn!

A place where light is surrounded in darkness?  It must be the commercial.

That was a bizarre segue to "we're about to go back to black holes". And then after the commercial break... we're in a forest.

Sort of jealous of light.

Now we finally get to the meat. This episode was very roundabout to the point.

These people did research, but had no wikipedia to post it on.  It was all for people who could read and were lucky enough to go to university.  But then, their world was smaller and they didn't need to be liked on Facebook.

But, like the mathematicians, they had no computers, but just elevated us from the apes by the thoughts they embodied on paper.

It really makes you wonder how this stuff wasn't obvious to them given how obvious it is to us. That's the genius.

Oh, no. He just said "alien". Here come the conspiracy loons.

I like how the scientists never use reading, writing, or arithmetic.  Just like grabbing things and saying 'whyyyyyy?'

I am so enjoying this series, I love the refresher course of science.....makes me feel like a youngster at the grandparent's house, watching Mutual of Omaha's "Wild Kingdom" and then "Wonderful World of Disney" on vacation Sunday evenings.

/and NdGT is giving me a few delicious shivers (intelligent men turn me on)
//yeah get off my lawn

More specifically, the dark lines appear because those are the specific amounts of energy needed to PROMOTE an electron to a higher-energy orbital. So all wavelengths are heading along, then this specific red frequency gets hijacked by an electron, Yes it does eventually get released, but not necessarily in the direction of Earth.

Yeah it is exciting, like a peak experience.  Not like sex of course, except maybe in some cases.

Huh. After the "China crushed an age of scientific innovation", I'm surprised they didn't repeat the theme with the Arabs.

That is an interesting concept that the photon would go flying out in a single direction, and not like a spherical wave.

Someday these spectra will all be integrated into your glasses, and anywhere you look will have a wider spectrum than that of a standard human.

Hmmm... did the very last minute give a reference to the 13-odd-gigayear age of the universe? One of the local FOX affiliates (WAHU) cut to the "and now the news" a bit early -- right after the reference to the microwave background. Charlottesville VA isn't exactly deep red territory, but we're close enough to Lynchburg that it wouldn't shock me to learn that there's a Liberty U graduate working in the control room.

Neil says "We've only just opened our eyes" and then there's a scene of the lights of NY flipping between spectra as "Rhapsody in Blue" (haha, GET IT) plays.

I am also disappointed that no Fark discussion was available while the episode aired, especially when the episode was significantly stronger than the episode that aired last week.

I really enjoyed tonight's show.  First time I caught it (and neglected to timeshift the previous episodes).

I really hope this show is well-received.  They need to sneak some knowledge on some people's asses.

It was a TF-only thread in real-time, but I am thinking of staying up to discuss it with the west-coasters in about an hour.

I see a few TF subs were gifted out to those who were missing out.  I'll have to catch it later this week.  (I don't pay for west coast satellite feeds)

I see a downward trend here

discussion threads post count
1st - 413
2nd - 485
3rd - 387
4th - 342
5th - 49 (this time last week it was about 250)

Did Ty piss off Farkers, too?
