Lenny_da_Hog: Not having a kid in school or anything...Does "suspension" still mean the same thing it did when I was in school? Like, loss of grades for all the work you're not allowed complete while suspended, etc.The way they pass out suspension -- which used to be a pretty serious punishment back in my get off my lawn day -- in the news, does it still have the same impact it used to?

wildcardjack: I actually stabbed a kid with a pencil in forth grade. As part of my "talk" with the principal, he said "he could get lead poisoning". Correcting your principal with fourth grade knowledge earned extra licks from the paddle in the late 80s.
log_jammin: also, I'm not saying the kid should be suspended, but he's lying about "only twirling his pencil".most american males who's ever been a seventh grader would instantly see in the video where bent the clip part of the pen cap down to make the handle of his "gun".I am 100% correct on this and have years and years of making pencil/pen guns, space ships, rocket launchers, telescopes, etc.. to back it up.
Fafai: I bend my pen caps down too but it's just from fiddling and fidgeting, not pretending it's a gun.
Ivan the Tolerable: suspended for throwing a french fry in the lunchroom - into the garbage can, instead of getting up from their seat and putting it in.
Fafai: Hopefully your kid learned his lesson.
log_jammin: Ethan says the other student had bullied him earlier in the day, and was now trying to retaliate.*scratches head*
HindiDiscoMonster: August11: I bet the kid has been a disruptive fellow for a while, I bet the math teacher was exhausted, I bet the principal is a weak leader, and I bet the father never set boundaries. Four individuals. One millennial poster child.Don't assign intelligence to zero tolerance... it will only frustrate you.I bet this happened exactly as in the article. We have seen far too much unintelligent bullshiat coming from school administration/teachers in recent memory to come up with anything other than it being the school's derp squad working in full force.

jshine: No wonder an occasional student goes off the deep end. If I had to spend day after day in the Kafka-esque nightmare that is modern public school, I'd probably start having revenge fantasies too. Seems like the administration is probably encouraging some of the very behavior they're ostensibly trying to prevent.
HindiDiscoMonster: poodle's core: Reading stories like this really makes me wonder if the aim of zero tolerance isn't to teach kids to be even more afraid of guns or anything to do with them. I remember we made (very, very crude) guns during workshop class in elementary school and spent the next 2 months having all out pretend wars during recess. Or hell. I attended a specialized school for electrotechnics and at some point it was considered good manners to bring an airsoft gun to school so we could actually utilized the safety goggles we were given for lab work. Granted we were 16 years old at this point but still.Getting suspended for making gun shapes or pretend guns is so stupid it hurts to read. This is precisely what I think. I believe that the only way to disarm the populace is to start teaching them that guns = evil. This way, people will naturally not purchase guns as they grow up... it will take a couple of generations, but the same goal is achieved... an unarmed populous... and an unarmed populous is much easier to control. There will of course be those from the derp brigade that say that is all paranoia, but potato this and potato that... sometimes you have to step back and look at the bigger picture of where things are headed./I don't own a gun incidentally.
