Actually since that says Jen Bush, I'm totally confused now after reading TFA

Given the field of fellow Republicans likely to run, it would have been commendable that someone like Bush with both fluency in Spanish and training in Latin American studies run. Not that he would have made it through the primaries. The idea of a First Lady openly born a Catholic outside the U.S. would have caused apoplexy among the Baggers, especially.

2014-04-06 07:07:39 PM
"A great country ought to know where those folks are and politely ask them to leave"

A great country would provide basic health care for its population.  A great country would tax the people benefiting the most from the system, the most.  A great country would not lock up 30% of their brown male population.  A great country wouldn't cut programs for the poor to give advantages to the wealthy.

What's your point, Jeb?

Illegal Immigration Not Always A 'Felony,'

I wonder if he even knows he's technically not wrong?

The illegal entry of non-nationals into the United States is a misdemeanor according to the Immigration and Nationality Act

Funny thing is, Hillary has a shot because Bill Clinton's presidency was, for the most part, successful. He's the rock star at every DNC.  I have a hard time believing Jeb has a chance, because the GOP doesn't even acknowledge W's existence at their conventions.

You can't run on the platform of "Vote for me, I'm the smart one," because it would force the rank and file GOP faithful to admit that they voted twice for the dumb one. Crissakes, the teabaggers were created as a front for people who were too embarrassed to admit that they voted straight ticket Republican. It's also why, around 2006, we started seeing a lot more self-proclaimed libertarians.

Shrub shiat the bed on that family's political aspirations for at least 25 years.

Yes, people will vote for Hillary because of Bill. But they'll also vote Hillary because of Hillary. Lots of people in America like center-right corporatists with a successful track record.

A lot like my white friend in High School, from South Africa.  He'd check "African-American" on every box he could.  Imagine the lulz at his Howard University interview.

2014-04-06 09:07:35 PM
FTFA: "And they wanted to make sure their family was intact, and they crossed the border because they had no other means to work to be able to provide for their family," Bush continued. "Yes, they broke the law, but it's not a felony. It's an act of love.

That's not how felonies work, numbnuts.  Certain crimes are felonies because of the seriousness of the crime, not based on how heartwarming the criminal's motives.  Not that I expect a politician to be factually correct when they can spout blithering idiocy that appeals to emotions, of course.

Illegal immigration shouldn't not be a felony because it's an "act of love" (gag).  It shouldn't be a felony because it's glorified trespassing, not a violent or dangerous crime.

I don't get why his brother or his dad being President, and how well/poorly they did, has any bearing on him as a candidate. Jimmy Carter's brother was Billy. So what?

By the same token, Bill Clinton was a great President, but that doesn't say jack about what kind of President Hilary would be.

Are you farkers under the impression that genetics makes siblings basically clones? With all the same attitudes and outlooks and capabilities and shortcomings?

I didn't. Precisely because he was running against Hillary. The Bush name is still toxic.

2014-04-06 09:21:11 PM
This is exactly the type of thing that makes me think he wants to run.  It's the textbook GOP play - reframing the rhetoric around an issue while not changing your stance.  I'm willing to bet he comes out later and clarifies that he's not against border control and supports draconian immigration laws a through z but just doesn't like the ugly depictions of immigrants.

Of course the base is going to hate even moderate sounding rhetoric backing far-right immigration laws  but what doesn't the GOP hate at this point?  They'll find a reason to hate every single candidate or potential candidate eventually - even if it just for failure after the fact.

2014-04-06 09:34:28 PM
It seems like this is the new strategy for any potential presidential candidate.  Deny running as long as you can so they spend less time slandering you in the media.  I mean, the media (and all political mouthpieces who go on their shows) will continue to slander the potential candidates, but maybe this will divert some of their slander to others who also might not be running.  It's just so sad that this is how our political system works.  I can't really blame them all for denying it.  Granted I don't have any interest in Jeb running.

I'm amused when someone compares Bill & Hillary (who was already involved in politics before she even met BIll) to multi-generational dynasties like the Kennedys and the Bushes.
