"Hey, we don't suck as much as everyone thought! In your face libs!"

I think you miss the point. FTFA: "I never felt so accepted, and so helped."  This given she was now in Billings and not Seattle.

I have lived in Seattle, and it used to be a great place before all the Californians moved up there. Just like Portland... and I will tell you what, it is the upitty, pretentious, hippy dippy, seattilite/portlandia, starbucks sucking libtards who are the most bigoted and closed minded people I have ever farkin met. Sixteen years in the military and I never encountered racism like in Seattle or Portland.

So of course she was surprised to be welcomed into that Billings community with open arms, now what I can't figure out is why she wants to enact the anti-discrimination ordinances after suffering no discrimination what-so-ever.  Is she afraid more people are going to move to Billings from Seattle and ruin Montanna too?

How soon before the IRS taxes her out of business for not following orders?

Well, it is to bigoted folks in urban areas who need it pointed out to them repeatedly that every place outside of a close walk to a subway isn't Deliverance country.

Did you go knocking on everyone's door in that town and asked them if they were bigots? No? Then how the hell do you know?

Oh, that's a "red" state - therefore, they're all bunch of racists, anyway.

Since we're assuming so much about people here, I guess you voted for Obama just because he was black and because you wanted to brag to your progressive friends how forward-thinking you were for proudly voting for the first black president.

Choosing not to associate with someone who financially supports hate is not being "thin skinned" ... it is called being moral.

Let's be clear here. We are not taking biblical morals that support slavery and stoning of disobedient teenagers to death. We are talking real morals and the courage to stand behind them.

Yeah, and she's post-marriage with a kid, and she's not currently on the radar of some particular political bullshiat.  When her kid gets beaten up for having a "dyke mom" and she tries to have something done about it things can turn.

I'm FROM a small town and atheist, I know the game.

Maybe you can start by staying out of everyone else's business.

Mr.BobDobalita: I think it has a lot to do with WHO the person is more than WHAT they're doing.... if Lizzy the Lezzie and her girlfriend are nice people and generally contribute to the community and are kind hearted, etc... I'm pretty sure smallsville, USA is going to accept them. If they're "We're here, we're queer, deal with it" types, I bet they don't get the same welcome.

And what happens when Lizzy and her girlfriend go down to the courthouse for a marriage license in Smallsville. I suspect the answer will be "Sorry. You are second class citizens - no license for you."

Billings Montana is not "conservative country" in the same way that Ted Cruz's neighborhood is.
Montana is historically very liberal on many social issues.

I always laugh how people get all butthurt after they accuse somebody of being homophobic/racist/bigoted and then they are presented with information that invalidates the accusation.

Accuser: "OMG!  You are such a racist!"

Accused  "I'm married to somebody that is not of my race."

Ok fair enough.  Nobody forced you to move here.

Huh?  In the very next sentence it turns out you DO want that.  Moving to a new town and immediately trying to change their laws to your liking will be a great ice breaker at parties.

"People don't realize that I can get kicked out of my house, and that's wrong."

Who is trying to kick you out of your house?  We need names.  Or just admit you're another gay narcissist with a phantom persecution complex.

/looks like the activist wing has sent its delegate to Billings.

Riiight.

Y'know, I've heard variations on "it's those Northerners who are the real racists!" maybe a dozen times in my life, always from people who would turn out to be gigantic assholes. It just seems to be some sort of code-phrase that assholes helpfully slip into conversations to let you know they are assholes.

Much like "I'm not racist/homophobic/bigoted, I have friends who are X!" or "the only group that faces discrimination these days are white males!".

There were two lesbians who had the only stationery store for quite a long time in Gardnerville, Nevada. Everyone knew they were "great and good friends" as the saying used to be. They had plenty of business, nobody hassled them, and that was that. One of the City commissioners was openly gay, and again, everyone knew it, he was never harassed AFAIK, and lived quite a normal life. He even hosted the annual pancake breakfast fundraiser for the volunteer fire department for many years and it was attended by the entire town.

You can't assume that just because a town is small and filled with white people that they automatically discriminate against teh homogheys.

We had a biracial couple too. He was the police lieutenant.

As long as Billings has assholes like this wandering around loose, then yeah, it seems like a non-discrimination ordinance would be a good thing to have as an ace in the hole.  Every statement he makes dribbles with complete idiocy, as if you squeezed Rush Limbaugh's ass-pustules and this guy arose from it.

Sounded like a healthy attitude up until the part where she is pushing for a law to ensure 'they' aren't allowed the same freedom of choice to be or not to be a part of her life without the threat of legal ramifications.

I respectfully suggest that she is not the most articulate of lesbians ever, and that the reporter is not the most accurate of reporters ever, either.

Put another way: her quotes in the article are likely inaccurate, contradictory, cherry-picked, or some combination thereof.
