" What's the name of that group? Public Enemy? Public Enema? What the hell's a Public Enema anyway? Hey! Shut up all that damn noise!"

Pretty sure Chicago usually average more than one murder a day, so just two over three days is not bad at all.

Subby... It's a scale thing. When Jethro shoots Bubba over the last Bud Light in your backwards ass town of 250 inbred rednecks, % wise Chicago is still safer.

Nothing new, 2012 Chicago had over 500 murders. Over 7 people were shot per day, and over 1.5 deaths per day. With lower class gaining strides from the middle class, this number is only going to go up.

You'd think the news would be that this kind of thing is actually down from last year....why isn't it? Oh, right. They passed a pro-gun law. Couldn't report anything that might put that in a positive light, no matter what. Gotta love the "independent" press.

It does indeed, though this spate appears to be gang-related, which means it could go up if it sparks a war.

I mean, someone shoots up a house party, a party-goer immediately returns fire, and "nobody knows who it was"?  That sounds fishy.

The law went into effect in January. Permits were issued starting at the beginning of March. Homicide rates increased afterward. Therefore, concealed weapons permits cause homicide.

Given how much the murder rate has fallen over the last 20 years? One could make the argument it is. Though one could likely do better looking at other factors.

Sorry, you are correct... It is just the permits now being issued. I thought it was the actual law in effect... Which, without availability if permit kind of made it that way. It's sad to see the no guns sign on every freaking building now.

Don't you rain logic all over his martyrdom parade!

Sarcasm aside, CCW usually doesn't change that much, or at least not very fast.  The kind of people who immediately get guns when they can are the kind of people who have the means to already be pretty safe by where they live and work.

Anyways, making this a gun thread is as specious as making it an Obama thread.

Chicago has been an ice cave. You can't compare anything when people have been inside longer than normal.

They did compared to the rest of the year, which is no less flawed than your metric.

Well that's the argument at any rate, I don't live there or have the stats handy, and my laziness is kicking in after that last wiki search.

And yet they will...

Go forth and fight for justice, warrior!

A defined process exists for amending the United States Constitution, requiring that you obtain support of thirty-eight or more of the states and two-thirds of each branch of the United States Congress. You are welcome to attempt to attain that support. Simply posting "repeal the second amendment" in a Fark discussion is unlikely to be conducive toward attaining any such support, however.

Small towns are at least as corrupt as bog cities. Ever see 12 out of 16 cops, plus the detective, plus the four top people in the FD replaced because the "other" family won the mayoral election? Nepotism and cronyism exists everywhere in politics. To the victor goes the spoils, and never will his drunk brother in law ever be cited even after causing his third fatality while driving intoxicated.

But the loser's brother gets years in prison for someone else's crime because that bars him from holding a local government job the next time around.

Corruption. Your small towns swim in it.
