Sounds like they have a policy that was put in place for a legitimate reason, are unwilling to make an exception for one person, and she accepted the consequences of her decision.

It's a non-story.

fickenchucker: shtychkn: Teacher tenure really doesn't exist outside of New York.

You do have to show cause. But that doesn't make it impossible to fire a teacher. They just have the basic protection all workers should have.

You know how I know you don't know what you're talking about?  Getting rid of bad teachers around here is about as easy as extracting helium from Mars.  or, considering your comment, Uranus.  "At will" employment isn't a bad thing, considering I work under those rules and have the same job for 18 years and through three downsizings.  Mad skillz, as the kids say, keep one employed.

Corollary to my CSB:
My brother is a terrible teacher and always in trouble, but unfireable due to tenure.

Good thing your state has changed it's mind in that regard. Bet yer stoked, as kids say.

I respect someone who takes a stand and lives with the consequences.

I wonder what will happen when more and more part-time sub teachers do the same thing:  You want me to do what to an item that is entirely part of my personal life?  No thanks, find someone else.

She most likely has tenure and a nice pension waiting.  I doubt the decision was very hard.  A true hero of our time.

She is a sub. She has none of that.  Subs are like day laborers.

Ima4nic8or: I feel kind of bad for the old lady but I actually side with the school on this one.  The first time some pedo picks a kid out from a photo on her page for some kidnapping and rape you know the school will get its ass sued.  Not to mention that it didn't sound like she was getting the parents permission to post photos of their kids.  Some of us still like some privacy.  You won't find any photos of me or my kids online.

Yeah, I'm sure that's exactly how it works

FTFY.

virtually every job sets rules for interactions between employees and clients/customers. That can include anything from not accepting gifts to not dating them. Many have rules regarding relationships between employees to prevent harassment, intimidation and other inappropriate behavior. This is not new, nor is it wrong for them to do it. it protects the company from accusations their employee engaged in inapropriate behavior and maintains professional levels of behavior.

Why the posting with an irrelevant ad hominem attack? Is this a troll?

In any case, if you RTFA, it appears this is a reaction to the Christopher Claremont Case.

As to her being a horrible tenure teacher that nobody liked, per the article:

By 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, there were 675 signatures on a petition posted on change.org, asking McGoodwin to "reinstate Carol Thebarge, bring back our Mrs. T."

Wow that's amazing.  If you change the word "Bush" to "Obama" and "racist" to "Liberal" or "communist" or "socialist", that's GOP playbook right there.

Mighty fine projection there, Lou!

I have a problem with the logic being used by the administration and no tolerance in general. One teacher used a public Facebook page to create a very successful community to support and help students in a place and method kids want to use, on her own time and efforts. Another used it to lure a child. Because they were likely sued for the second offense, the first is forced down regardless of the consequences, punished and going further, everyone is punished and treated like pedafiles as that's the safest way to avoid another lawsuit (Because if you can't stop the offense, swat uselessly at his method). In short they dropped a nuke to fix a problem that was already taken care of by the police.

Follow by "we are unable to think for ourselves... Err our hands are tied" comply citizen. Really? How about a little common sense?

Better hope Granny doesn't lawyer up cause its not much of a stretch for a lawyer to make this into ageism.

shtychkn: fickenchucker: Gary-L: There's nothing worse than a public school teacher with tenure

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^THISTHISTHIS^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

We ended up home-schooling because of an old out-of touch bat routinely belittled and harassed my child, and the principal couldn't do anything because of tenure.  (We didn't home-school for religious reasons, and he's in public high-school now, in NHS, an Eagle Scout, was on the baseball team, and doing just fine),

Our not-so CSB:
It was an early iteration of Common Core--AKA No Child Left Behind--that gave the biatch the idea to mock him for reading books above his grade level.  She called him out in class for "showing off", since he spoke with an elevated vocabulary, and laughed at him for reading Harry Potter books in fourth grade. We asked for meetings and she continually avoided us.  The principal did nothing to help--the old piece of shiat should have retired when Reagan left office.  When our other son was scheduled to have her the next year we pulled the plug.  When the principal called to see why we un-enrolled the kids, I told him because Mrs. Berry of Shady Lane Elementary School in Menomonee Falls was a horrid teacher.  He didn't put up any defense of her and said he hoped we would give the junior high a chance.  That's principal-speak for "I hear you, dude--please come back to the district when you can".

Teacher tenure really doesn't exist outside of New York.

You do have to show cause. But that doesn't make it impossible to fire a teacher. They just have the basic protection all workers should have.

Well I'm sure your McDonalds job doesn't care so much what you do outside work but my grown up job cares mightily that I don't bring ridicule, scorn, and many other conditions upon them.

The school are idiotic tools, without thought, reason, or intellect of any kind. So, normal.
Her being so nice about it makes them look like straight up a-holes.  Which, no doubt, they are.
