I haven't read this thread, just came here to say this:

Socks with sandals are the most farking stupid, ugly-ass thing on the planet. ON THE PLANET.

But I'm not the type to criticize and not offer a solution, so here is what I propose.

Once a week, clean your toenails out with hydrogen peroxide. I use a (I don't know what it's called, "toenail pick?" Anyways, you can get it from Walmart. Squirt those suckers with hydrogen peroxide once a week and use the file to remove dead whatnot. Not just under the nail, along the the nailbeds too. Next, buy a good "sandal refresher" spray and clean your barefoot footwear at least once a month.

John Buck 41: reprobate1125: John Buck 41: I guess if looking stupid is fashionable then yeah. I equate this to driving a convertible with the top down and the windows up. STUPIDSTUPIDSTUPID

Have you ever owned a convertible?  Especially one that doesn't have the baffles behind the rear seats?

Yes, a '68 Camaro. No idea about this baffles thing.

So one could say you are "baffled"?

It's Minnesota. "Fashion" does not enter into it.

/fashion doesn't enter the state at all

offmymeds: HawgWild: I have a question.

Why is it that when I'm looking at myself in my full length mirror wearing nothing, NOTHING, but white socks, I look okay. Seems reasonable.

However, when I do the same thing wearing nothing, NOTHING, but black socks, I look like a tramp?

Why? Am I sock racist? Because I don't think that's it.

Have you tried rainbow socks?

I say, they're rather brite.

/I'm with subby on this one

One could.

In Europe, wearing socks and sandals points you out as an American tourist almost, but not quite, as fast as asking if you get fries with that crepe. Do what you want, accept the consequences.

I don't like sweaty feet and don't care what you think of my sense of fashion.

Peter von Nostrand: You're already wearing sandals, so why not complete the look?

Not everybody can bear that cross

I'm all for freedom of the press, but do we really need this kind of irresponsible and reckless journalism?

I encourage this buffoonery. The world needs more weird humour.

I think you've been April Fooled.

Magook: Hate all you want.  There's no better way to show off colourful, cozy handknit wool socks.

Those are great socks. Did you knit them? I tried knitting socks with four tiny needles. I decided to stick to crocheting things.

Well, all right then, if you guys would rather look at my toenail fungus I'll ditch the damned socks.

jaybeezey: Third In Line: Um, no.  The whole point of sandals is to let your feet BREATHE.

That's fine and well in places that aren't 98F and 50% humidity.

Some times I wear black ankle socks with my closed toe sandals if I'm wearing them with pants. You can't even tell they are their and I don't end up with swamp foot.

If they have closed toes, they aren't sandals. I'm guessing you mean "shoes with a closed toe but no back"; those are called mules. And socks with those are fine, *because* they have closed toes.

What really needs to die, in footwear land, are high-heel sneakers and boots-with-open-toes. There is no reasonable scenario where you would ever need to wear either of those. Also, the word "shooties". "Booties" is terrible already. Those are ankle boots, dammit, "booties" are what infants wear, stop infantalizing stuff for adult women.

But yes, men, if you're going to wear sandals, get a pedicure at the beginning of sandal season - nail polish not required. If that's unacceptably metrosexual for you, at least cut/file your damn nails, and if your toenails are yellow, treat your foot fungus. That's not fashion, it's basic freaking hygiene. I mean, seriously, would you allow someone to bring something jagged and disease-ridden into YOUR bed?

I'm still trying to wrap my head around 'jeans' being 'business casual' but not 'levis' or 'wrangler', just 'designer jeans'.

I second that about Minnesota. I didn't know it was wrong for a long time until an out of state friend decided to educate me. Socks with sandals just seemed to perfect mix of breathe ability and comfort.

Ooo, an opportunity to post a joke I came up with last week....

Q: Why was the podiatrist accused of being a racist?

A: It turns out he wasn't. He was just black toes intolerant!

All I know is I don't want to live in a world where wearing my argyles with my sandals is sneered upon.

Coyote Doyenne: Subby, I came here for an argument, not a contradiction.

/no you didn't
/yes, I did

I'm sorry, the five minutes is up.
