great band, just wished they still did drugs for the live shows.  saw them 10 years ago and it was amazing, past 5 years have been pretty boring shows though

Crack the Skye was merely alright, and I thought the Hunter was the same. Then I listened to it more and more and really started to dig it a lot. Though I like so much stuff I can't rank albums coherently, it's one of my favorites of all time.

Met Brann Dailor in Newark Airport a few years back. He was standing against a pillar wearing that yellow t-shirt he always used to wear and being a drummer and a Mastodon fan, recognized him immediately. My wife had no clue who he was (she does now). I walked over and said "Hey Brann- thanks for the music." He smiled, shook my hand and said, "This is why I do it."

Pretty cool dude.

I saw them open for Clutch many moons ago.
I had never heard of them before but made my way up to the front once I heard the insanity coming from the drums.
He was chilling at the bar after the show. I went up to him and loudly declared he was the best I've seen in the last 10 years. He laughed and the asked "Well who have you seen?" I started going down the list when I got to Neil, he really laughed and said "Alright you've had enough" and shook my hand.

Good times :)

That's awesome. I've never heard anyone play the drums like he does. He approaches them like a guitar.

When Mastodon and Dethklok toured together about 5 years ago, the guys in both bands admired the shiat out of each other constantly.

/even though Mastodon's friends kept stealing Brendon Small's Guinness bottles from the green room.

Just wanted to point out that mastodons were several million years apart from dinos.
/all of which lived less than 5,000 years ago.

Pro-tip kids.  If you want to download some of their music, make sure it's Mastodon and not Mastedon. It's kind of like the difference between Alabama 3 and Alabama.
