Tomorrows headline: 'Game of Thrones": How Westeros is a left-wing fantasyland

2014-04-06 09:10:03 AM
I saw something about this earlier, and thought it too much a click bait headline to bother with.

Voting early and often.. to ban Salon from my daily routine.

Not familiar with the show, just the concept. How long would the typical hoverround riding GOPper last there? 7 or 8 minutes?

2014-04-06 09:26:20 AM
(reads link)  Hmm, kinda.  But I don't think Westeros has the kinds of leaders that combine church and state into one figurehead to worship.

2014-04-06 09:27:28 AM
Can we just have the Dragons and Nudity, plz?

Cant really compare the two

One believes in fantasy while the other lives it.

Its apples and oranges.

Clearly you have forgotten about the one true king of Westeros, Stannis Baratheon, who is also Azor Ahai reborn.

Smoking GNU: Can we just have the Dragons and Nudity, plz?

I'd be happy for just hot nude women needed for exposition. All company meetings would include two hot women making out.

There are two television shows that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves dragons.

Gregor Clegane could solo an entire Tea Party rally ( yes, i know they have guns...)

/ fear and terror > hot air and bluster

That would have been much more convincing and effective had the author simply omitted all the "Game of Thrones" nonsense and concentrated on listing Republican transgressions. He could have kept up his word count by using a different trope not based on  a frickin' TV show, or simply gone into more detail about the GOP's sins (I thought the part about homosexuals was particularly weak precisely because it doesn't seem to be that big an issue on the show). By tying the whole narrative into the new season of "Game of Thrones", the author, and Salon, exemplified what's wrong with this country--money, pop culture, and the herd mentality that's obsessed with both of them.

I don't think Evel Knievel could have made that jump in logic, but if it results in more naked women, I am all for it

I disagree.  That article would serve no purpose, would not be click bait, and would never have been greenlighted on Fark.

Dragons? We get dragons? I only ask because they'd be more likely to eat old fat humans who can be easily hunted.

/I'm saying they'll eat the GOP

God hates tits and wine. There are so many different varieties because he kept trying to make the perfect tit, and was unable to see that they were all perfect at one time or another. It was too frustrating for him, so he just said fark it and got drunk. The following day he had such a hangover that he created tsunami, earthquakes and volcanoes.

I saw Newt Gingrich on some talking head show in the fall of 2008, and he said the US should be more like India, China or Northern Ireland going forward in the 21st century.

So you're really not wrong at all.

I think the article put the wrong party in the article.  From what I see its the democrats that want to establish a new aristocracy.  They are, after all, much better suited to make decisions for everyone else.
I know which party really supports a nanny state that controls what you do, say, and think.  I stand corrected, its not a nanny state, its a vote for Orwell's 1984.  Or the Soviet Union, or China, or Cuba.  If they want it so badly, why don't they just move there and save us the trouble?  They can write us about the glory of the people's revolution, where you can drive the peoples' truck using the peoples' gas, while standing in line to buy the peoples' bread and peoples' toilet paper.  From each according to his ability to each according to his need, right?  Oh, wait a minute, that doesn't apply for the party's elite.  They can have armed guards, with gas guzzling limos living in giant mansions that require huge amounts of fossil fuels to power while having elaborate parties and saying, "let them eat cake!" while the rest of us suffer for their arrogance and supposed superiority.  No thank you.

Not really.  However, I believe the goal is to undermine workers' rights and anything unions were able to do to improve working conditions.  They hold fast to the rhetoric that all you have to do is work really hard, focus, be boot-strappy.  The economic reality is that it is very hard in this nation at this time to work hard and become wealthy.  Soon it will even be really hard just to work hard and be able to retire.

The rift between wealthy and poor is getting far too wide, and the middle class is disappearing.  This is good for the "job creators".  They'll have a pool of workers from which they can pull.  People that will have to work terrible jobs to survive, and afford modern conveniences.  The second part is key.  Not just TV, smart phones, and other gadgets, but things like modern medicine.  That's why they try to kill "entitlements", believing people won't work as hard if they don't have to worry about paying for healthcare.

Basically, they want people to believe they have to work really hard and stay focused on that brass ring in order to succeed.  Meanwhile, the only people succeeding are the truly wealthy.
