Nico on pole? This should be an interesting one to watch.  And Force India seems to have the makings of a good season so far. And it does amuse me that they are ahead of Red Bull in points. Now if only Lotus could get their shiat together...

Renault? More like oh no!

I watched all the qualifying yesterday and one thing for sure, Seb was right, these new cars sound like crap. There was at least some sizzle to sell the steak last year (F1 in 7.1 surround sound was totes awesome), but now it sounds like crap. Add to that near zero passing and the race is already decided unless the pole sitter goes mental and farks up.

Also, why would F1 give the teams another set of softies for Q3 and then take them away after?

Oh well, will be watching this morning.

There is tons of passing now. Even more than last year when there was already a bunch of passing

I missed the first two races this year and if I'm talking out of my ass, good.

And as Will Buxton pointed out on his blog this morning, Seb has no one to blame but his engine supplier, Renault. They were threatening to pull out of F1 unless they changed the engine formula.

It's been interesting. Lots of good midpack battles. Merc engines seem to be dominate so far. At the very least these new cars have shaken things up a bit.

One thing I haven't seen is whether they still have their heavy security perimeter to stave off any potential disruption of the event.  Things are still "unsettled" in Bahrain since the Arab spring with the government suppressing any dissent fairly heavily with the help of Saudi Arabian forces.  The last few events there have been rather militarized around the track. Are the cameras better at not showing the APCs and aircraft or have they pulled back and set their perimeter out of camera shots.

You could tell Toto of Petronas was enjoying the moment also, saying the rules are the rules and they are just fine with them.

Ya,  this is one of the races that just angers me for F1s catering to places like Bahrain and Dubai.  Between the human rights violations, the limits on marketing (Martini's livery), and watching all the rich sheiks walk around, never mind all the time I've spent in that part of the world, it just makes me hate Bernie Ecclestone even more.

There was a protest yesterday, but it was completely peaceful.

Lots of flat spotting of tires out there. That should make things interesting.

It could be worse. Remember, Rupert Mordoch was hell-bent two years ago on buying into FOM.

Apparently the BBC announcer has attended the "Mike Bagley School of Race Broadcasting." Only dogs could have heard him through the first few corners of lap 1.

That doesn't narrow it down, Vergne.

Eat shiat, diMontezebungholio - I don't want to hear one word from you about being upset with the rules, considering how often you play politics with this sport.

It does look cool, and also hides the fact that other than then main grandstands, there is no one at the track.  Most other tracks have spectators all the way around.

So, what does Mercedes know that the others haven't learned yet?  It's clear they have a big advantage in pure power. Nice seeing some other teams do well.  Was getting tired of Red Bull Red Bull RedBull......

Ross Braun stopped work on their previous car almost at the start of the season to concentrate on developing the new engine (the same thing he did a few years ago, too). So even though he's not there, his engine development has them about a year ahead of everyone else.

What they actually did to the engine was split the turbo in half, ran the connecting shaft through the engine, and cut down on the size of the intercooler:

Two races going on.

Hamilton v. Rosberg, and everyone else.

Maybe not the smartest strategy for them to be racing each other so early on?

I liked the Ferrari one more with the lever to drop the car instead of lifting the jack

It is making things interesting how off Ferrari and Red Bull have been this season.
