It only took six years to marginally resolve the Republican economic collapse and here we are just a year away from handing the keys of the nation over to them again by putting them in charge of the house and senate.

I am going to lose a lot of faith in the country if the GOP manages to take back the Senate.

I think the key states are Georgia and Kentucky. Those are two seats that have the best shot of flipping the other direction, toward a Democratic caucus gain. If either of those flip, the GOP has to pick up two more Democratic seats to guarantee the majority. Both seem to pose a great opportunity to defy the odds like Joe Donnelly and Heidi Heitkamp last year. I don't think the GOP can flip enough current Democratic seats should Nunn or Grimes win.

I don't think we've replaced the jobs at all:

data.bls.gov
That's a significant drop, and retirees can't explain it all, nor can government jobs.  Slate had an article last week I can't find about "missing workers" but people are just dropping off the map.

Prior to 2012, sure. After that, nope. That's pretty much all from retirees.

Measuring the labor force age 16+ doesn't seem like the right data set to really get a good idea of what's going on.  18+ or 21+ would give a better picture of those who actually need to work for living and are finished with HS or their undergrad years in college.

The graph may end up looking the same, or it might not, I'm not sure what that would do, but it just seems like it would be a more realistic way to measure.

If a kid in HS is having trouble finding a part time or summer job, that's unfortunate, but not the end of the world in the grand scheme of things.

If you're going to blame the financial crash that started all this on a president wouldn't it have to be Clinton? He's the one who signed the partial repeal of Glass-Steagall.

Fair enough, but it's something they've been measuring for 20+ years, so it's at least a useful statistic in some regard.

Both Reagan and Carter paved the way for that in their own ways. Rather than looking for a single culprit, better to blame each for the role they played it in. Regarding Shrub, he may not have built the highway he was on or designed the breakless car he was driving, but he certainly did not one single damn thing to avoid driving off that cliff.

"I have to note that today we have replaced all of the jobs lost under the Bush economic policies and recession that that took us into," Pelosi told reporters on Capitol Hill. "It's taken this long to build back from that."

Only 6 years to fill a hole that took Bush 8 years to dig? That's progress, innit?

The repeal passed with a veto-proof majority, so the only thing Clinton could have done was symbolicly refuse to sign it.

It's also one of those bills like the Patriot Act that was claimed to be the bestest thing evar and was not presented with the subtext "...and then we'll abuse the fark out of it, what were you thinking, muah ha ha".

Recently, Rachel Maddow noted that when President Obama did something to put more money in people's pockets, he did it before the paycheck, where it would be more effective but less noticeable.  She brought this up as an example of how Obama usually doesn't go around bragging about his deeds.  The success of the ACA signups was an exception to that rule.
