Good for him. I remember he was so close to being a nobody and most likely to die from a drug overdose. Glad to see how well he's pulled his life together.

Well, seeing as how he may have some memory gaps from 1992-2003, there's a good chance that half those kids might be his.

Downey's father started giving him weed when he was 9. I don't think knowing what's age appropriate for kids is a strong trait in that family.

Glad he's doing well.  It's good to see people make the turn back from a bad road.

Definitely a guy on the list of "dudes I'd trade places with". And it isn't a long list.

Yeah he had hard times. I imagine and it certainly seems that only makes him appreciate it more.

Nope. It was the same event, a rich celebrity's girl who got her way.

[Jamie] Foxx's five-year-old daughter insisted on an Iron Man theme for her birthday party, and told all of her friends that she knew the real Tony Stark - and that he'd be there. .......... RDJ totally came to the party with a bucket full of Iron Man toys

The non-rich kids at non celebrity parties would just get some tweaker in a tattered rental Iron Man costume, IF they were lucky.

You know, RDJ is right toward the top of my "celebs I'd love to have a few beers with" list.

Also pretty sure he is the only person that could play Tony Stark that well... Mostly because he IS Tony Stark without a suit.

RTFA again, genius. The Iron Man appearance was at Jamie Foxx's daughter's birthday. The Winter Soldier screening was at HIS birthday.

Winter Soldier is PG-13, and some of the political themes are rather dark, but I suspect they'd just not understand the movie fully.  I did see a couple in the theater with me who brought their young son, who looked about 8 or so.  Perhaps younger.. it was Friday morning, so an 8 year old should have been in school.

On a side note, I applaud Marvel for what they're doing with the MCU and especially Agents of SHIELD.  They structured the entire season as an elaborate prelude to Winter Soldier, and did it in such a way that both the series and movie can stand independently.  Knowledge of AoS wasn't required to understand Winter Soldier, but for those who stuck with the show, seeing all of the pieces fall into place is a nice reward.  Regardless of what you think of the quality of the show, Marvel should be applauded for the audacity of what they tried to pull off.  Arrow may be the better show, but it will never be anything more than an isolated bubble in the DC Universe.

My ONLY gripe with Winter Soldier:  When three big-ass Helicarriers with Stark Tech in them are crashing, and S.H.I.E.L.D. is clearly under attack, where the hell is Iron Man?

According to the targeting info in Zola's algorithm, he was in New York being targeted for destruction.

I can understand Cap not going to him for help against Hydra (after all, Stark's repulsor tech WAS in the helicarriers) but I can't understand Stark not hearing about the massive emergency and rushing to help. Even if he showed up late, I'd have expected him to make the effort. And if not him, then where the hell was War Machine during all of this?

I love the MCU, but the contracts for a certain number of appearances mean that sometimes, some heroes are completely MIA when they'd otherwise logically show up to deal with a disaster.

There's always going to be selective teamups in comics.  It's just part of the genre.

I'm sure most people not in SHIELD would have no idea what's going on, until the hovercarriers launched, and then there was mere minutes to stop them.  And War Machine is active duty Air Force; he could have been anywhere in the world.  The media wouldn't have noticed anything newsworthy until the hovercarriers started shooting at each other.

I remember earlier in the movie when someone made Nick Fury promise that Iron Man would show up for his daughter's birthday party.  I'm thinking 'you're going to make a billionaire show up somewhere, let alone Iron Man?  Good luck with that!'

These sorts of things sometimes get covered in comics one-shots.  For example, one reason that War Machine wasn't at the Battle of New York was because he was overseas dealing with some of the Mandarin's minions.

President Ellis was one of Hydra's targets in Winter Soldier, plus we know they have allies in government like Senator Sterns, so maybe SHIELD was kept in the dark? Heck, Hydra could have predicted the kidnapping of the President via the algorithm and figured it would be more convenient than eliminating him themselves.

Also, the Vice President was corrupt, so, when Tony and Rhodey called to warn him that the President was kidnapped, he said that he could have F-22s in the air within 30 seconds if necessary, but he does nothing. As far as Tony and Rhodey knew, the calvary was on the way.

Really enjoyed Winter Soldier but the director needs to be kicked in the balls for bringing shaky cam into the Marvel Universe action scenes. They had been doing such a good job staying away from that in all the other films.
